They have all kinda mechanical electrical issues.

Knew a guy with early Vipers and I quote " worse car he ever owned"
- Leaky targa tops
- quirky electrical stuff, like being locked out the car because door locks won't work
and a host of other issues.

If it isn't 98+ Viper.. Good luck...
You probabably better off with the FD, and probably faster and more reliable..
Nothing like a car built in the 80's or early 90's in the good ole US of A.
First off, in my opinion the Viper is much better looking. No offence to the RX-7 club... I'm about to join it, but the Viper is better looking hands down. Of course I'm not getting into the RX-7 for looks (although they are nice) I'm getting it for the power.

Speaking of power though, a stock Viper of ANY year (except for '96, they screwed that year up somehow, 0-60 in a crappy 5 seconds) will beat a stock RX-7 of ANY year. And the '96 Viper will still run neck and neck with the fastest stock RX-7's.

As for the "worse car ever owned" I've heard many people say the same thing about the FD RX-7. And when I was looking into buying a Porsche 924 Turbo, they said the same thing about that.

I have learned that across the board, most sports cars that are 10 years old or older will have a bunch of crap said about them. In the end, it is simply a choice of which problems you want, and which advantages you want.

And to boostgasm, I say congratz!! I say you got a REALLY good trade. I have been a part of the crowd asking for a look under the hood of a Viper before... they are amazing cars, and desputably one of the greatest cars America has ever made.

Your opinion only.

Not around a race track.
The earlier Vipers suck. I had a buddy who bought one new and what a POS. It leaked water (top) he had electrical problems and the car was twitchy going down the road. I had if for two weeks and it sounded and drove like a truck. The later cars are much better.

And a Japanese Mitsubishi Evolution MR can kick a Lamborghini Murcielago's butt around a race track, I just saw a Top Gear demonstration of it today. Does that mean the Lamborghini is a POS? Or what about the standard Evo 8 beating a BMW M5, does that mean the M5 sucks?

And you can't use problems as a basis for a cars crappyness, at least not in the FD forum. I've read horror story after horror story about the FD, that doesn't make it a bad car. It just makes it a car that is 10+ years old.

Also, the Viper is a totally different beast... American cars have always been that way. Massive torque, and enough power to brute-force any car into the ground. Of course it's twitchy, and if you don't know how to handle it, you'll hate it. Sort of like the older Lamborghini Diablo. It is a brutal beast... and can be very unforgiving. Yet... that is the reason many people love them... and it's the only reason I'll own one someday.

I also agree that the later models are much better, but the later models you speak of (1998 and newer) cost $45,000+++. Boostgasm's car was $30,000... a steal for the amount of fun she'll have with it. I think an easily fixable water leak, and a few electrical problems is worth $15,000 extra in the bank... if she even has those problems at all!! Just as with the FD, there are good Vipers and bad Vipers, just because your friend had problems doesn't mean Boostgasm will.

[EDIT] I don't mean my posts as a personal attack, I'm just trying to make the point that it's sort of hypocritical to point fingers at the Viper from an FD forum... the FD has a truck load of problems too, and most seem to me more serious than replacing a seal, and a computer component. But it's still worth it.

Did I say the speed around the track made it a POS? No. I said the electical problems, leaking roof, lane jumping, etc did, pay attention.

I can and I will. A leaking roof, electical shorts, the multiple problems the car has, does, especially when considering price. Secondly the Viper in question was purchased NEW, not ten years old. Again, pay attention.

It's not "twitchy" because of power! Driving it at 40 miles an hour down a straight road it darts.
I have built and driven more muscles cars than you can shake a stick at. I also hold a race license so save the corny conjecture.

The leak is caused by the design of the car, the snap top. My buddy isn't the only one who had problems, the problems are well documented.

No it isn't. You assume I think the FD is not a POS. Mazda should have been much more thourough with the car and ironed out its problems before thet released it. Lastly, If the car was kept stock the problems were mainly boost issues.

I meant exhaust,The( ups truck) sound. The car is meant to be raw and brutal, but Its not as bad as a cobra427 kit car.If i were ever to get one it would be a sunday car.I would be even more paranoid to park it somewhere than my fd. Good luck when you buy one. you should test drive a z06 2002 an later to compare.I love the z06 tigershark body kit with after mkt wheels.

Is that why it comes with windshield wipers? You have to wash them sooner or later. Oh and isn't the one in the pictures posted soaking wet?

I really fail to understand your point pal. If I see it correctly, I do not see the name of that trucking company anywhere in the pics posted....

Oh, and BTW the 96 0-60 is 4.1 sec.
If you are correct, then my info was screwed up. I previously thought no Viper was slower than 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, maybe I was right. The info came from:

http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html

And referring to the '96 as a "screwed up" year was being somewhat sarcastic... even if it was only 0-60 in 5 seconds, that's pretty dern quick.
