I agree -- and if it wasn't VR I'd be in talks haha. I just can't have two red Mazdas in the garage..
As long as the doors are OK I'm fine with the interior on the SSM. 2/3 of the console panels are available from Mazda still and I have one good radio console that I could swap into it..

Buy a hard top and paint it any color I want.....after all they ALL have cheap thin paint that need attention
Bottomline: IMO anything over 27k for the SSM is too much and personally I wouldn't pay 21 LOL. I can point you in 4 other directions as well including my base SSM

It absolutely was an emotional buy, however. You are spot on. What made the decision easy was knowing that the chances of finding a lower-mileage, cleaner SSM R2 on the market was slim to none.

On a diesel truck 88k is just broken in on a turbo sports car that's a ton of miles.

- 88,000 miles / 25 years = 3520 miles per year = 293 miles a month = 73 miles a week. A real owner that bought his car for enjoyment and used it as a weekend car, very likely kept up with repairs
- 40,000 miles / 25 years = 1600 miles per year = 133 miles a month = 33 miles a week. Owned by some guy who enjoys being a storage facility for the next man. Car is likely in great condition but expect many original plastic/rubber components to be old a brittle.
- 20,000 miles / 25 years = 800 miles a year = 66 miles a month = 16 miles a week. Basically owned by some guy who prefers wacking off to the the car rather than to drive it. Expect the car to be in excellent condition. Be extremely weary of jizz looking stains on the carpet.
- 10,000 miles / 25 years = 400 miles a year = 33 miles a month = 8 miles a week. Expect the car to be in pristine condition and completely covered in jizz from bumper to bumper. Prior to driving, strongly suggest filling a pool full of lysol and letting the car soak in it fully submerged for about an hour.

And I agree with the above sentiment that 88k is not a lot of miles for a 25 year old car. Sure, wear parts need replacing, but if the car has been properly kept up, what's the difference..?

Engine and almost everything attached to the engine LOL
Trans
All suspension rubber parts and there are lot. Possibly even the ball joint parts as well and there are a lot.
All the weather stripping is hurting
Most of the switches are getting close to wearing out esp drivers side window
Window motors are tired unless the car was garaged kept. The window weather strip on this car starts to catch the window on the way up and it wears out the motor.
Antenna likely already dead
Fuel pump is dying
Starter is dying
AST and radiator are very close to splitting
Fan motors are dying
All the harnesses in the engine bay are close to having issues
defrost vents......forget about it they are about to crumble or already have. Good luck pulling the cluster that cluster hood is also about to explode into pieces.

THIS IS A WHY A NICELY KEPT LOW MILEAGE FD IS WORTH TWICE AS MUCH AS A STOCK FD WITH 4 TIMES THE MILEAGE. That said it's not worth 3 times as much for all the reasons we've already discussed and that's why 40k is a stretch.
At this time the only FD's I'd be interested in spending big money on would be low mileage varieties (to me that's 20k miles and lower). And also they can't be barn finds which makes them extremely hard to find.

All suspension rubber parts and there are lot. Possibly even the ball joint parts as well and there are a lot.

BOTTOMLINE: this is an expensive car to own, drive and maintain.......JUST LIKE ANY OTHER TURBO SPORTS CAR.
As far as practical value when shopping for one you typically either pay up front or end up with a basket case that you are sorting out for years. Just for the record every low mileage FD I've purchased has run well with no major issues BUT I've also never driven one over 10k miles as I tend to sell them within a 3 year period or so. Also it's important to note that with each passing year your low mileage car is closer to exploding with both minor and major issues.
Very, VERY good deal but that 95 is still the deal of the decade!

At this time most any FD that's stock even with low miles isn't going to be a very reliable car. As in I wouldn't drive it on long trips until it's completely trust worthy (driven for 2500 miles or more with zero issues and thoroughly inspected).
Bare minimum this ssm touring car will most likely need:
Gas tank, fuel pump sock and pump wires etc...inspected
All fluids flushed and refilled, possibly new fuel filter, pulsation dampener etc...etc...
probably tires (look great but how old are they)
One quick note looks like the car has been repainted on the drivers side based upon the drivers side brake vent and lets just say likely not a done well
Bottomline: when it comes to 25 year old sports cars in most instances it's a case of buyer beware to some degree or another.
