The biggest threat to the Old FD may be the New Supra. Given the number flying around in Vancouver, they must be bringing them in by the boatload.

We are an FD crazy town, but if you can't get one, it seems people are settling for the Supra.

The Supra is a less useful BMW, I don't get it. Just buy a slightly older BMW, from before they ruined the grill lol.

BMW S52 Z3M Coupes are similar to the FD, and now similarly priced as well

Yep, so long as you buy quality at msrp you usually cant go wrong. My watches certainly increase in value more than the cars I buy, and they are much cheaper to maintain and insure!

anyway back to cars, I have a feeling there will be some decent deals in the next couple of years, the economy is going to get ugly fast.

Sports Car Markets, August 2022 edition has a nice two page spread on the FD. Also remarks on a recent Supra Mark IV sale at $176,000.

FD article page 42. Says FD is now a relative bargain compared to the Supra.

yeah this is a tricky situation. It’s a double edged sword when something you enjoy increases in value so much you worry about using it. I’m in that boat with my Hulk, not very comfortable with $40k on my arm. I expect it’s the same if you have a low mileage FD

This is in what was previously one of the tightest real estate markets in the country just 90 days ago. I am not even sure how I feel about the offer getting accepted. I am with Fritz believing its going to get really bad. 2007-2009 bad or worse even but I hope for everyone's sake I am wrong. There are some very telling signs in my industry that biggest retail corporations in our country are scaling back quickly. Operational costs have skyrocketed and I believe business owners are truly starting to feel the impact of drastically increased labor, logistics, T&E and product costs. Buckle up and hope for the best while preparing for the worst.
My area is going to get buried when the sh*t hits the fan. Our real estate market is still skyrocketing due to out of province buyers moving here. 2021 showed the biggest interprovincial migration to New Brunswick since records began in 1932. Our housing prices have doubled in three years and it is not slowing down. Every house has 5+ offers within hours and all at $50k - $100k over asking even with 5.19% mortgage rates. I see a fast collapse around 2024-2025 when recent mortgages have to be renewed at 3x their current interest rates. Not many people can eat an extra $1500/month in mortgage payments.

Meanwhile, I’m patiently saving my money to scoop up some blue chip stocks and a couple of toys.

Surely, there are any number of black swan events waiting to swim into view including nuclear war, mass starvation in certain world regions and a new widespread more virulent version of covid (or not). But, at the present, we are at a stage where (i) the economy has bounced back strongly, showing resiliency and surviving a spike to 20% unemployment (recently revised figures) from the covid shock,(ii) there is a mass of stimulus money still sitting in the very high savings rate, and (iii) unemployment is at record lows. Employers have suffered through labour/worker/staffing shortages for a while now, is the economy as a whole really going to shed workers that fast? Maybe we are travelling rough waters in a battleship, not the titanic.

I know where you can find one with 13,xxx miles on the chassis. It's sleeping under mahogany dust and was apparently never meant to run again.

I actually take the opposite approach to this. I believe if something is rare / valuable (subjectively) then it is an obligation to share. If you find yourself fortunate enough in life to own said desirable object, it would be a pity to selfishly keep only for oneself.

One of my great passions in life is music and in my time have collected a few historical instruments; mainly a pre-industrial era Austrian double bass. I am merely a curator of something that will outlive me and I honor the tradition of passing this usable tool onto another human being for continued use. Something which doesn't get used literally has no purpose (to me). I always say it's like having an attractive 'wife / partner' that you choose not to have sex with.

Always enjoyed fine watches but never owned anything too fancy. Old clocks are fun too. Talk about a bygone tradition / trade.

I’d wager that would go for more than 10k too . There’s definitely still some decent stuff out there tucked away. But the days of deals are few and far between now. I just wish that an FD’s natural habitat wasn’t jackstands or hidden away. Seems all to common now. These things were meant to be enjoyed, not be worked on for years at a time. I still crack a smile every time I hear the turbo spool as I head down my local back road. That’s how I value my FD.

Me too. However, mine needed a rebuild when I got it. And when I tore it down, I found that it had been rebuilt before, and needed a lot more than typical seals and housings. So time for a single and a full performance build, and it's been down for a month already. Always takes longer than expected.

That property only appreciated $80k since 2018, a whole 9%. That is drastically below the national average. In my area, a home that was $960k in 2018 is very likely $1.4-1.8 million today......well, was that until a few months ago. A lot of markets are now over inflated when you look at the population and average income of the area. The slow down/pull back/recession whatever you want to call it has started. No one knows just how bad it will get yet.

Yeah. A house in my neighborhood just reduced their listing price by $4k (home is listed over $1M). Not sure what $4k will do haha, but there hasn't been a decrease in a listing price in the last 4 years (they all turn into bidding wars). So they either just got super greedy on the initial price (which did happen), or we are now experiencing the cool down in this neighborhood (too early to tell on this one example).

4k must be a magic number to trip over Zillow recommendation algorithms, because I see it consistently as a refresh markdown.
