they had a whole line of them, like 10, and several turbos.
i ended up with the one in the back that they hadn't gotten to yet :eyeroll: super base gold 86, 74k no sunroof, even the original tires (which is fishy), it was actually nice though, thermal pellet died around 118k, so after a while it was smoking like an 80's Mitsubishi

That NSX is a pile of gold right there, even in that condition. NSX values are absolutely ridiculous.

But I don't know if they are necessarily "sought after" but it's just one of those parts that is SO hard to find if you actually needed one. Most are in landfills by now, even more so FC exhausts.

So, I gather we've all seen the BaT FC TII sell for $63,000... Like I said, likely to be the new high price for an FC and I think it is. While so many FD owners greatly prefer the looks and handling and focus of the FD's, the FC's have their own special and different charms. And rarities. The few minor blemishes spoke to the car's authenticity as a survivor, I think.

My point is the price difference. It makes no sense. An FC is qualifies as a collector car to very few people. It was never perceived as an iconic car. F40 was iconic from the start. FDs we're notable early on and grew in popularity along with other 90's bubble cars.
Just because there are only a few low mileage FC turbos left doesn't mean they are collector cars. The person that just spent $63k on this car could have easily got a comparable car for $30k. Yes it would have higher miles, but with an FC, who cares if it has 2200 miles or 20k miles or 50k miles.
What makes the FC a collector car other than it being old? I've driven them, did not find it a special experience. I guess if you like the 80's, the shape is period correct along with the Z and 944, but that's about it.

My highest bid was 52k. Felt that 50k was about right for a car that moderate cosmetic damage and no original mufflers and all around poorly presented. 52k and not even close to the winning bid! Pretty nuts when you think about it, feels like 5 years ago you find S5 FCs for sale everywhere. Very few were preserved. As @DaleClark called out, FCs were burnt up. Modded and driven into the ground, and at a much faster rate than FDs.
The interesting example that comes to mind is the Acura Integra GSR vs the NSX. Honda sold appx ~9k NSXs in the US from 1990 to 2005. Now take a look at the BaT sales graph: https://bringatrailer.com/acura/nsx/...90&yearTo=2005
Compare that to the Integra, which sold over ~300k in the US: https://bringatrailer.com/acura/inte...93&yearTo=1998
If you had a GSR in high school and want to find another clean example, good luck. Super hard to find. Clean, low mileage NSX? On any given week on BaT you could blindfold yourself and bid on a random car and probably end up taking home a perfect showroom stock NSX.

^Yep. When a car is more low-end in price it means they move more units but they aren't seen as "special" so they get burned through.
That's also going on now with the RX-8. Blown engine? Sell the cat for $700 and junk it. That's happening all day long to cars that are decent.
My friend Jimmy and I joke about the Neon SRT-4, they were the hot thing when they came out and we saw them EVERYWHERE. Now you don't see them at all - most are in a ditch or blew up. They were made like garbage too.
Fortunately the FD was special enough that it's survived but it's not special enough to have seen some attrition especially 15-20 years ago.

We have to remember what the FC TII was as a car. Where it was aimed. It was meant to be more of a GT than the FB and to have more amenities. It was softer all around than the FB's or FD's. It was quieter. More comfortable. Was made to look like a Porsche 944 and go after that market, specifically. It doesn't have the performance of the FD, but it is probably a very attractive car for some people. FD owners and aficionados can't understand the attraction, because they (we) like an entirely different kind of car.
