Forgive any mis-recollection, but I was told these were commissioned by Mazda Japan, designed with help from Amemiya-san and marketed in cooperation with Greddy Trust. They were produced in the same factory as rx7 parts, which explains the excellent design, fitment, and details. I know they are polarizing, but I feel compelled to document and preserve this thing. I'll follow up with more pictures and information...

The quality is very impressive. At least some of the glass is DOT, complete with working defroster. I don't think this thing saves any weight; it's very heavy. The interior of the piece has custom trim panels kindof like stock. The latch and hinges are all sturdy and metal. It came with fully instructions that I can't read. It's 4 bolts and a wire harness, and I'll keep my stock hatch on stand by if I'm able to get this thing painted and installed.

You need to install the JDM rear seats, and then figure out how to rig up 3rd row seating.

Yep, some did come from GReddy with the wing. It does have that early 90's aero style. Will try to find out more.

Youve gotta find something crazy to do with the space inside the hatch!

An aquarium?
Aviary?
Apiary? XD

Planetarium?

Slot car track diorama of Akagi touge?

A rave for those rotor plushies complete with laser light show?

I feel like these are all reasonable suggestions when I look at that outrageous (and cool) hatch...

No worries. I feel obligated to do it and share it with the community, and I know it will be polarizing.

There's a plug for every socket. Just because I don't like it doesnt mean it ain't the beans to someone else. Thanks for sharing!

Wrapped up the wiring and took a couple pictures from the inside, with all the trim panels on. Don't think I've ever seen pictures of one from this perspective. Needless to say, rear visibility is mitigated, as compared to stock.

It would be even more awesome if it had defroster lines on all the glass and a small wiper in the rear

Is the large glass, glass? how heavy is this thing?

So much room for activities!

I'm impressed it has interior trim as well, it's pretty damn clean looking.

I'm not SUPER big on how the car looks with it, but it's SO unique and well made that I like it.

Thanks! You can be first in line if I ever ditch it. Or, maybe another one will come up FS. I hadn't seen one second hand, but apparently they come up from time to time.

Yep, it's a little goofy inside and out. Would love to extend a parcel shelf to fit, not sure my fabrication skills are up to task. We shall see.

Hah, all the accessories! Yes, the main glass is glass. All the glass is marked by Nippon. I'm not quite sure how heavy the whole thing is. Slightly heavier than the stock glass. The stock hatch struts can almost do it, but it slowly starts to fall and won't stay up. Maybe 10-15lbs heavier than stock? Just a guess.

I do like it more in person than in pictures, and it's growing on me. Trying to reserve judgement 'til I get it painted. And, even then I'll probably love my ugly baby. The fit and finish are nicely done. Most of the interior side is fiberglass painted flat black, and then the trim is a really nice touch, and the fiberglass is molded to flow nicely. I'm looking forward to loading it up with luggage and going on a weekend trip with my parole officer.

Thanks guys. However you feel, I hope you're enjoying the show.

All I can say is WOW!

Pretty cool, couldn't rock one personally, but it is cool. Probably been said a million times, but it really had to have been inspired by the Pulsar NX SportBak.
