Who makes the best rebuilt motor?
#76
Rotary Power in Gardena, CA is great, I got my engine rebuilt and ported by Jeff and Allan when my water seals went out, I got a really good deal and they answered all my questions. Jeff is a really cool guy and he isnt shady with information, he knows it all, I learned a lot from him. Im currently trying to get a Power FC for my FD so Jeff can tune it for me.
The best....Check them out

Not ATKINS
Atkins rotary sucks. They rebuilt my engine, and it didnt run at all. Jason and Dave said my mechanic misdiagnosed it. When the motor arrived at pettit, they couldnt believe what they saw.

Care to elaborate? I can read this two different ways, but just wanted to hear it from your mouth (or fingers)
If I recall, the Kris guy was the one who got messed over with the Atkins motor; and remember you installing it. You told him to go to Pettit first, but he went the cheaper route and "got what he paid for". That is from memory, but did this guy say it was your fault the Atkins engine was bad?

Yeah, sorry it's hard to "read" my sarcasm, thanks Kyle. Atkins said that I fucked up the install and there's no way the motor was bad. I didn't meet the kid until he had already had a shop in town attempt the install and I got the messy leftovers. I put the "fresh" Atkins motor in which took about 20 rotations to start, wouldn't idle below 1750rpms for the 1 hour run in and then proceeded to take a **** after a 7 mile trip around the block. I retested everything,, took the harness out of the car, off the motor and tested EVERY single terminal end to the ecu and back for continuity and voltage drop- everything checked out fine, so I sent the motor back to Atkins(after another removal) and they told me it checked out fine on compression. I then had them dissassemble it and send the pieces to Cam. Which 75% of the parts were out of spec. The rotors had been milled (on the sides)over .005 too far and not even straight. The front iron was WAY ported with a high roof and low drop and the rear iron was barely ported. The eshaft was from an 89-91 turbo motor, the oil stanchion was off a 20B and several other parts were useless. Needless to say Upon receipt of the Pettit motor, I installed it and on the first try it fired right up as expected(and has been my vast experience with installing their motors) and idled straight as an arrow at 750rpm once the hour run in was done. It now has roughly 5500 miles on it and starts every time! You get what you pay for!~

Hello, I had Dave from KD do my engine job among other things and I would HIGHLY recommened them I trailored my car from central massachusettes about 4 hrs. one way and it was worth every mile. I would only bring my car there. I use my car almost exculesevily for road racing and the engine has been perfect for almost 2 years! That includes 2 days of all the track time you could handle in July at Watkins Glen. Before I ever commited a dime we must have spent a hour going over everthing i wanted to do,pros,cons,etc... A very nice guy and a great staff. Jim

Maybe Not Atkins
I'll report - you decide.
My Atkins re-man lasted 10mo./10Kmi. After reading the fine print on the 2 year warranty - where it says I pull engine, pay shipping back to WA, they decide if it was their fault, and then if I disagree - I had the recourse to sue them in an California court - I said to myself: Self, **** Atkins! I called Ray at Maloy and had another in three days.
The difference in remans was like night and day.
Atkins:
Two different types oil-metering jets in housings.
Used rotor housing.
Extra charge for flywheel - did not have pilot bearing in it.
No oil pan.
No water pump.
No thermal sensors.
No pretty red caps on cooling lines.
No lift hooks.
Cast iron jackets rusted through the black paint they'd sprayed to cover it up.
Took a lot of time and stink to clear that grease (zinc-oxide?) they'd coated the insides with; to make for good compression?
After smoke out - vacuum was never better than 18 in.
Didn't do a post mortum, but frequency of knock-crind-bump and pixie flakes in the oil suggested it was a rotor bearing that went.
Maloy:
New rotor housings, with new oil-metering nozzles in them.
Flywheel included - with new pilot bearing and seal.
Oil pan installed.
New water pump.
New thermal sensor ( rear jacket)
Coolant lines capped - sexy. Even had New coolant nipples. New jackets, I guess.
Lift hooks.
Front & rear jackets appeared new - center used.
Only 500 miles on it so far, but it is much smoother. Atkins motor never felt right.
Vacuum goes a low as 22in.
Finally, car idles at 750 without fribulation.
Like I said - you decide.
OH YA - Took Atkins NINE MONTHS to return core deposit - guess they were pregnant with cores?
