Post Some Pics of your FD! :D <- Pics of your car go in this thread!!
damn nice, i want some of those craft square mirrors but i dont want to have to fill in the doors where the OEM mirrors were. So thinking something similar but with OEM mounts...

Zero fender mods, so far as good after about 8 Dragon's Tail runs and two road race track days
Edit: you'll notice the ride height isn't slammed, with the roads here in NJ I've found it necessary to raise the car a bit. I'm sure this has contributed to my lack of fitment problems

I've got to ask, but is it a new fad or "cool" to have wheels that are completely the wrong offset compared to factory specs???
Or having tires which are stretched beyond their intentions to a wheel which clearly doesn't fit on the vehicle???
Take the pic above as an example. What are the specs on those wheels?
There's no doubt you had to roll the fenders.
There are other examples in this thread that exaggerate the wheel offset clearly beyond the cars body.
So why do people do this??
Does everyone know something the engineers overlooked???
There are some fine examples in this thread (mostly stock bodied! ) Others, not so fairable.
Just curious about some of these pics I've been seeing lately.

Lol..You're a bit late on this train.
It's called "hellaflush". Stupid name, stupid trend. You're right, the idea is to take something that normally would NOT fit an application, and force it to by either stretching a tire beyond what the manufacturer intended, or sacrifice your cars handling by dialing out your suspension geometries to try and squeeze it in.
Some people find it cool, some hate it. Take it for what it's worth.

Specs on the above set of wheels are. 18x10+40 in front and 18x11+44 in the rear. All completly stock other than coil overs and a very slight roll. I left the lips of the fenders rolled not pinched. I feel it goes better with the stock lines. I'm running 245 in the front and 275 in the rear for tires. Probably changing to 255 in the front for more diameter clearence. I have room to go wider with tire in the rear but the Dunlop star specs don't go wider.
Now for the comment....
If you don't want to modify your RX, then why are you even a member of this club. Apperintly you have been here awhile by your post count. I'm tiered of people saying "the engineers didn't desighn it to be that way". (duh!) That's why there is a aftermaket industry that is huge. Because some people like to do things different than the guy that buys the best car he can of the lot and leave it stock because that's how the manufature intended it.
This might be a fad. So were Z caverichies and French rolled cuffs when I was in high school. If you don't want to keep up with current trends then so be it. I think this look is new and cool.

LOL wow neo....
stock wheels are way too small for the car. For instance take a look at all the new high priced sport cars, do they come with 4 inches sunk in wheels ? **** no, they come with flush wheels but with the good tire sizings.
Furthermore, there's nothing wrong with ooRX7's wheels. They make the car look better, clean and also give him better grip

I get a little frustrated with the attitude that, if it was good for our cars then Mazda would have produced it that way. This would make the world very "cookie cutter". We would not progress as a society, if every one thought this way in general.
Make an assessment...

****, if mine had come with THOSE two turbos I probably wouldn't have gone single haha. Actually I still kinda regret it sometimes anyway. I love the response of the twins. Oh well.
Ah, so that was YOUR car I saw on the AutoRND facebook page. Forgeline F14Fs right? Good looking wheels. The whole setup looks good!
Agreed. I guess we all should have left our plastic ASTs in there, along with the stock radiator that is undersized and with plastic endtanks, along with whatever other things the Mazda engineers slacked on...just because that's how the engineers designed it. Oh well. I'll give it to them, I absolutely love the car overall and almost every engineering aspect of it, but what genius engineer decided it would be OK for hot coolant to go into a plastic tank?
And my setup is pushed out quite a bit more than yours, but not near as much as 20B haha. I'm sure glad I don't try to please anyone else with what I do. I love my car, and that's what's important to me.

hey, howd you do the "shark tooth" mod? what are you using to push the opening larger and hold them there?
if you have a pic of that it would be awesome!
ps love how subtle it is by using the black rods, it vanishes into the vmount nicely!
pss your inbox is full

lol, you guys always think things started from the NE fellas. The Shark Mod was original developed and sold by Nick of N-Tech Engineering based in Florida. I think Nick is out of the custom parts business (which is too bad).
The mod itself is pretty simple. It's two solid metal dowels, with large washer like pieces welded about 1/2 - 2/3 of an inch from the ends. You then drill holes upward and into the lower opening of the bumper to slide the dowel ends into. The welded washer pieces force the opening wider. You just need to measure how wide you want the opening and then weld the washer accordingly.
The other part of the mod is removing material from the undertray to allow the air not to get blocked.

Please STOP posting pictures of you car you are going to make me buy forgestar f14's as well.
They look sooooo good whenever I see your car I imagine how they would look on my vr with a bronze finish. I really want those wheels. Well done.

To all who responded to my original comment:
Apparently I'm late to arrive to this new "fad" of stretching and making things sit "flush".
Yes, I've been around the forum a very long time. And yes, I've "modified" the car to suite my personal needs.
But why would I compromise the overall handling of the car just to fit a new "fad"??
Everyone is aware of the stats this car originally achieved using the stock wheel/tire.
Even then, the Mazda engineers revised everything for their last attempt at this model. And they modestly upgraded the wheel/tire spec. Still keeping the original offset set from their first attempt.
Wouldn't you find that kinda odd?? I mean, the car stopped in 2002-2003. So the whole new "fad" of manufacturers adding huge wheels and tires was catching on already. Ever wonder why they didn't go that way?
While I agree the engineers have to work within certain budget restraints, I think they did an exemplary job with the overall car. True, they had to skimp out on a few things (such as the AST, or the plastic end caps on the rad). I'm pretty sure that had to do with budget restraints along with engine room under the hood.
Engineers pick these certain parts with alot of variables in mind.
Now, this being said, lets say 50% of the people on this forum have modified the car well beyond the factory HP specs. Which of course entails you upgraded the overall package. Meaning, brakes, suspension, tranny (depending on power levels), etc.
How many people have actually accomplished this?? I think very few.
I know alot of us have upgraded the power between 340-450hp at the wheels. That's a significant power upgrade. And as many have found out, the rest of the components either wear considerably faster or simply break entirely. This of course depends on the frequency of usage of the vehicle.
I personally have decided to keep the car looking "stock", exterior wise.
I've been wanting to "upgrade" the stock rear spoiler to 99 spec, but I found out 2 holes will be exposed due to the first spoiler.
So I've decided to keep her a 98 spec car. Just before the Spirit R.
I've seen alot of vehicles on this thread. Some done tastefully. Others done extremely wrong. Down to the part of being dangerous to operate (stretch tire and offset way off!)
As someone has said, to each his own.
I still think the original car lines are better looking than most of the new models offered nowadays. I wouldn't want to make the design look "modern".
Alot of manufacturers are producing vehicles which are down right boring and ugly. Ferrari included!! (can you say California. Hell, even the latest Italia doesn't look prettier than it's predecessor)
Ok, I've said my peace. Carry on with the pics.
