Nice job on the heat shield but if you are obsessed with intake efficiency, get an aftermarket intercooler.

Damian - you kick so much ***. Thanks again!

Mr. Stock - Ok Ok, but this is WAY more fun! And the design is actually more effective than many of the intakes on the market.

Hey Damian, great work. I'll be using your template to make a heat shield this weekend.

As for the "MOOing" I was thinking of just feeding the tube from the air pump back into the intake pipe via a nipple of some sort. You guys think that'll do it?

Damian, did you ever find another material to line the edges with? I fashioned a heat shield for the stock modified airbox based on your design, but haven't been able to find anything to keep the aluminum from slicing through things (including my finger).

well, the black stuff that you see in the pictures of my original design (at the very begining of this thread) can be purchased at checker auto (or any auto store), its for lining the outside of the car door.works pretty well, the strips I got had glue on the inside of it so they stayed on pretty good....

... but, I think I am going to take my extra silicone hose, slice it down the middle, but only through one side, put some silicone glue/sealent on the inside and slip it over the metal, that should make a really nice protective (and sealing) ouline of the metal sheild.

for those wondering what is a good material to use as an outer protector, you can use the car door protector strips like i did on my initial setup, or try silicone hose, with cut down the midle of the hose, but only through one wall thickness...this is what mine looks like now...and the silicone holds up tot he heat better:

Hey Damian
Just one question for ya. I see you're using one small breather filter for the airpump hose. What did you do with the 2nd airpump hose? (hose that was located in between the upper intake pipe and the airpump hose you have the breather filter on) Did you cap it off?
Thanks in advance!

That looks bitchin! I'm going to do that on mine too as I've got a few miles of silicon tube left over!

Yea, where is your other hose? Thats the moo-er, no?

ah, thats cool. I suppose I could remove that amount of hose too? Since the "moo-er" does not need cold air.

The anti moo thing is pretty cool. I'm currently using a weedwacker muffler. It didn't make it much quieter but it's a straight through design and has a nice deep tone to it I wonder if running an open tube down to the 2nd oilcooler opening would do it.

well guys, this was a great thread and i though I would add that I am installing a medium IC soon and need to remake the sheild to fit with the new IC, any one want to see a template of the new "medium IC friendly" sheild?

How about making two sets of the heat shielding and taking some heat resistance material and riveting it inbetween the two pieces of sheet metal? Should provide more resistance to the heat. Any thoughts on if that would work?

Try catalog pages 3428 and 3429 at McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com).

good find jim, I used silicone hose with a slit through the thickness of one side wall and slid it on the edge, then uised tie wraps through small holes in the sheild to hold the hose in place...it worked very well.
