Your thoughts on changing body color.
I'm thinking of respraying my car (getting sick of looking at the 'orange' Sunrise Red ). The only problem is that I don't particularly like red. I'd like to paint it a metallic blue. I can get the whole body resprayed (including inside the doors), but not under the hood.
Now I know from a resale point of view, this would be a bad thing to do (and I'm sure some will think it is a little ), but apart from that, what do you think?
All comments welcome.

If you don't have much work into the car then I would not change the color. It's a major pain and expensive to change the color.
But if you have alot of stuff done to it (engine and what not) it might be worth it to change the color if you want to then.
just my opinion

How much is it to stay with the same color? I can go to earl sdchieb and get the same color for $250 and change colors for $300. For that much money ive never seen a paint job look especial good or last over 1 year. The body shop where my 240 is at usses ppg paint and to change color it will be about $3000, but it would look great. Good think the San Diego school district is paying for it and not me!

Never cared too much for red myself, but I used to have a 70 Mustang fastback that was a really nice blood red color. It was much better than that bright scarlet red that everybody uses. Wouldn't be that different from the original red in the engine bay. especially the way oil and dirt darkens things up!

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
My feelings on a color change is that unless you want to do it right (as in remove the bumpers, headlights, most of the interior, all the trim, all the door and hatch seals, etc) that it never quite looks right.
I can see leaving a motor in, but if you are gonna change colors do it right and paint the jams and under everything.

I was in the local paint shop picking up a can of do it yourself paint and I was asking them abot paint quality. The paint that they sell was very high quality. something like 3-400 $ a gallon. I asked them about MAACO paint and they said that macco uses cheap low quality paint which they buy in bulk.

Maaco sucks, both my friend and i made the mistake of using them (we didn't know how badly they sucked, we're looking into their warrenty service now)... eitehr who, it cost us about 600 (my eclipse) and 700 (his volvo), and less than a year later, the paint started chipping off, we were under the impression that they would at least SAND the paint underneath, but it looks untouched... i'm very unhappy with it, as soon as the DSM runs again, i'm going to take it down to bitch about it and try to get the warrenty service on it...

hey buddy. Since you're in ottawa, there used to be a shop called Ceasar's autobody ... they are no longer on Ceasar Road, and have since moved... i dont know where they are now ... but they did some match-painting on my brother's 95 DSM... and the quality is pretty impressive. They baked the finish too, which is a desireable quality in any finish.

A word of caution though. They lie about when they will be finished. If they say one week, expect a couple but it's worth it. Make sure you call each day and ask about the progress. Another good shop is ____ collision on 425 (??) richmond road. They usually have customers cars parked outside, so that you can inspect the quality. They're quite pricey though, but the quality is the same as ceasar's ... I'm looking for a paintjob for mine too, so if you find something better, let me know please.
