My 87 TurboII has a 3" downpipe, 3" midpipe, and a custom 3" cat-back with a real straight-through muffler and it's still not that loud! No cats, no presilencers, I figured it would have been loud as ****, but it seems like the higher I rev it the quieter it gets?? I even have a leaking exhaust manifold, I figured that would add even more exhaust noise, but someone told me that if their is an exhaust leak by the manifold then it creates turbulance which would absorb sound. No matter what I do I can't seem to make my turboII loud enough!

 

Man this has been bothering me for so long! Under boost in my 87 TurboII you can hardly hear any powerful exhaust note at all and I have a 3" downpipe, 3" midpipe, and 3" custom cat-back with a true straight-through muffler, it doesnt even have baffles(you can see right through it, its fully open)! It's the closest thing I can get to having no real exhaust system at all and it's STILL not that loud. When you're under 3,000 rpm or not hitting the gas hard and just cruising at a high rpm, it sounds pretty loud, but under boost where I would expect it to be the loudest, it sounds pretty weak. I have an exhaust manifold leak which could be changing the exhaust note, but would a leaking exhaust manifold make the exhaust note quieter or louder? One guy told me it would be quieter because a leak from the exhaust manifold would create turbulance which would end up absorbing sound from the engine. Is this true? What do you guys think??
