Are you guys telling me a AUTO tranny cant be built up to handle 200HP?

Are you guys telling me a AUTO tranny cant be built up to handle 200HP?

I know you all hate the auto and I have found not single post on here of anyone who has kept it and made it stronger.

I cant believe it is not possible to beef up the stock tranny to take 200HP or Less....


It is in my best interest all around $$ & time wise to keep with the AUTO . The car currently has no tranny or motor and I really want to get it running .

It is a 91 and I would rather have it over my 88 Vert.

surely it is possible. I saw a AUto RX7 1990 that had 0-60 times of 4.9 for sale on EBay a while back and it seemed OK..


I know I was able to dramatically improve my Auto in my 4.6 Bird with valve body modifications and a cooler & converter.

????

no flames please, I already know you guys hate auto but....

Try the J-spec Turbo II automatic transmission.

You can do anything you want with $$$. The guy on ebay in all likelyhood was full of ****. However, of course you can beef up an auto tranny. The question is...do you have the time and money to do it, and would that time and money be better spent on doing a 5-speed swap?

It CAN be done, probably will handle it stock... autos are tough, man.

i used to drop it from neutral to first a lot it held up until I broke my U-joints on my driveshaft...but all in all it was still slow!

some people had an auto built to handle 700hp for a honda crx drag car. i dont know what parts are available or needed for rx7 auto trannies. i believe Level 10 performance was the builder of the transmission.

Brilliant!

That or an auto from the Japan T2 Auto. These are essentially the same units directly from the cosmo with minor gearing differences.

look to spend around $400.00 for one of these units.

OK, if you read my post you would see that the reason is because I dont have the time to get all the parts and modifications that would be required to do a swap to 5spd.

I need to be able to drop it in and go.

you guys say it is slow. How slow??

what is the 0-60 times of an 91 auto VS
a 88 Vert all stock ???

If not all stoc k then say maybe a 88 vert with exhaust & intake VS a 91 Auto
with exhaust and intake.


give me something other than your opinion based on comparison of your car which is a 5sp and modified.


what are the numbers for all car?

I will do a search. If the Auto 91 is not slower than a heavy 88 Vert 5spd then that is all I need to know other than if the tranny will blow up with stock power.

I have no tranny so I am prepared to spend a little for the Auto and it seems nobody wants them so I should be able to find one.

I will need to have a running car before September and I would prefer tto have the 91 over the 88 vert if I had a choice for multiple reasons.


that is the point of my post. to find out if anyone on the planet has a auto that will handle basic to mild power.


the car on Ebay was sweet. I would have bought it in a second if I hadnt tied up my money on 2 verts.

Now I am going to have 1 vert and one 91 to get running but I can only keep 1 car and the coupe is more to my needs.

That isn't necessarily true. I would think having the stock auto rebuilt to make it perform better and handle more power is going to cost at least as much as a 5-speed swap.

This is a better idea. The Turbo auto is a pretty good box. Any importer of J-spec engines should be able to source one, as the engines often arrive with the gearbox still attached.

BTW, technically there is no J-spec "Turbo II".

Not worth the effort or extra cost. The FC Turbo auto is more that sufficient, and the JC auto is controlled by the stock ECU.

I don't know where you got that dodgy bit of info, but JC production started after FC production stopped, so I don't see how the FC's auto could come "directly from the Cosmo"...
