Yes another 6 ports Q

I have a N/A 88 and the ports are a little hard to move with the tip of my finger but they do move, but when I drive the car it feels flat on the top end, no punch when I nail the gas, I put gear grease on the rods and can tell that they definatly don`t move while driving like they should. I heard that I can rig them with the ACV or something like that, but don`t know how, any suggestions??

Well if you're 6 ports are stuck shut from dirt build up im pretty sure you cant rig them open without cleaning them out first. Id just remove the 6 port system entirely.

But I want..........

.......To keep my 6 port system operational, I would rather have power at all speeds instead of a drag race only powerband.

I have searched and the posts seem vague I will look in my manual to see what I can do. One question......how can I identify the "ACV waste line"

Thanks,
John

I hope you, at the very least, wipped of the grease after verifying they don't work. Otherwise you are promoting further seizure with the attraction of foreign particales and the like.

Do a search should yield you ample results under the famous terminology "6 ports" rather than "auxilliary ports". However the latter Is the more appropiate way of describing the ports.

To boldly go Tony... Electric actuation eh. Hmmmm.

Jon E:
I've prodded at my 6 ports with my mits and I can't get them to budge, they do however come open like clockwork at 5100rpm. Contrary to pop. beleif (at least on the Series 5 these things do open at this rpm not 3800 or whatever, so don't say they do!) I've read it in the Yamaguchi book, and he should know.

I feel it if I'm not at full throttle, but at about 3/4ths, and if my application of the throttle is steady state, not still in the process of depressing. It feels like a little kick in the back. Sometimes it's more prominent than other times, so try it at least a few times before coming to the conclusion they don't work.

Read the FSM. The 6PI solenoid opens at 3850rpm. It's the VDI solenoid that opens at ~5100rpm. That'll be what you can feel.

I have a S4........

How much better is a S5 intake??? is it more power or just a but different. Also, I am sure that this car has way less power than my old 86 had especially at the top end. It seems to have no sharp power curve. do I just T into the big giant hose that goes to the middle valver and split it to the 2 actuators? Is this what the ACV activation is???

Verts are heavier, don't expect it to scream like a coupe.

You need to loosen/clean your 6port sleeves. This requires removing the intake. Not worth the hassle. Just wire them fully open and bump the timing for the lowend torque. This is what I was running for the last couple of weeks. My 6 ports quit closed. I opened them(what a bitch). and have bumped my timing 15 degrees and don't miss the actuators. An underdrive pulley will help with missing lowend power. And once you wired them fully open, you can get a real exhaust and experience tons of power everywhere(another thread stating no loss of power with header install). If you go through the trouble of removing the intake, you should upgrade to the pineapple sleeves.
Not sure if the S5 intake is worth it. But, if you are after every once of power, there were several threads concerning the conversion and the power increase.
