Write Up/how To Section

I hope others support this idea, and i dont know if it exists here, but...I was wondering if the moderators could put in a "How To/Write up" section somewhere in the forum for people to get info on many of the common things like a write up of any mods that can be done to the RX-7. moderators can review a post/write up and determine if it is a good enough or a clear enough write up to put in that section. that way everyone, especially newbies can get a lot of answers to their questions.
There are a lot of people who post write-ups on this forum, why not honor it by putting it in a specific section. oh well just my 3 cents. my 2 cents is free and the third is Tip hehe.

It would only work with info that is already common knowledge and written elsewhere.

Everytime someone does a write up on something custom a few people love it and then the so called "experts" come in and state how dumb the idea was and why it doesn't work. Then they give you the line how you have to have a dyno sheet for proof or else your mod is bs. To make matters worse people start making their own interpretations on what was stated and then flaming the person for something that wasn't even said. Good idea and it would work well if everyone was an adult and open to new ideas. It would be nice to have a site dedicated to enthusiasts instead of letting the knowledge lacking flamers take over. To each their own though.

I support the idea never the less. Only down fall is that if the moderator doesn't like your idea then you may never see it posted.

We need something like club DSM has.

they have a "Top 1000 most asked questions " FAQ that answers even the most trivial questions.

heck the first thing i looked for when i came to this forum was for the HEADINGS to see what the forum offerred...that was before ever even placing a post! and no **** there is a thing called an archive! but arent the archives in a library organized? please READ my post and comprehend the meaning of my thread instead of throwing in lazy *** remarks.
I do teach at a the most expensive highschool in far east asia, and i have to admit a lot of my students are way more intelligent than some of the young punks who flame up around here. MY POST is an effort to make the forum more efficient.
If you wanted to do something to your car, and wondered if it has ever been done before or how to do it, you simply go to the "Writeup/HOW TO" section, the same way you go to look for parts that are on sale....you go to the damn for sale section.
The Main difference between the main forum and the "Write-up/How to" section, is that the ONLY THINGS POSTED IN THE SECTION ARE WRITE-UPS/HOW To's THAT ARE WELL WRITTEN. because they can only be in there if transferred or put by a moderator!(not necessarily written by a moderator) you cant add to the post, or anything either. if you wanted to find out general things...search the archives! if you wanted a good write up, you view the write up section. no posting in the section, just viewing.

I'm trying to get the motivation to tackle that "problem" in the Archives.&nbsp The section has enough information to keep most people busy for a long time - it just needs to be "trimmed" and organized.

Hey, pay me for the time, and I'll be the first one to jump at the chance.&nbsp Unless you're going to volunteer the time to do something like this, please don't insist.&nbsp These positions are not paid, and most of the guys have other things more important.&nbsp I understand that once it's done, it'll be a good source of info...but, I'm looking at a solid couple months of work (by myself) just to eliminate and organize the Archives section myself - I just can't drop everything in my life at the moment.

Come on rotarygod, stop beating around the bush.&nbsp You can mentioned MY name specifically, you know.&nbsp But keep posting "useless" stuff will get YOUR posts deleted very quickly next time...

Anyone notice how this forum has turned into a police state?

RETed, how about $1000 to make your site have ultra-discriptive step by step approaches to all of the problems/how tos/mods? We can all contribute a dollar or two. Anyone who won't pay can be banned.

Cake's site should be half way to completing this goal, once he gets off his lazy *** and finishes it!!!

Hey Ted, im not insisting, incase your post wasaimed partially at me. i understand the work involved to be able to put it in and i dont mind doing it or at least helping out if you guys are interested. and i know also how difficult it is to administrate this site and have a life outside the internet heeh i used to own and manage my own multi user domain on my local server as a hobby. but i merely wanted to post the subject out there for people to give their view and although it may not happen in a week, i am hoping ithe forum growth would at least be moving in that direction. thanks for the input. and lets eventually clean up the archives so that there is more space and the forum can be faster when we click the links/threads. no lag.

Well, to give you an idea of how much time I "waste" on here...

I used to spend up to:
1 hour on the fc3s_org mailing list
4 hours on the RX-7 Forum, at least 2 hours out of the 4 just in this section
30 minutes deleting most of the "big list"
1 hour on my fc3s-pro.com website mail
1 hour on my other Yahoo mail that's RX-7/FC3S related

This was BEFORE I was mod.&nbsp Now that I'm a mod, I can spend 4 hours just in here easy, because now I go through EVERY post.&nbsp I barely touch any of the other section in here now, cause just going through the 2G stuff can easily kill my 7 hour allotment (see below).

"Luckily", I don't have a job right now.&nbsp BUT, I am back in Hawaii on "family matters" right now.&nbsp My gf bitches I spend too much time on the computer - I'm lucky I can steal her computer at her workplace to do this for now, 7 hours every morning.&nbsp I don't have any consistent computer connection other than my gf's work at this point in time.

It doesn't help that the Delete thread function doesn't work.&nbsp Moves and Edits seems to take an eternity to go through successfully - does it matter I'm connecting from Hawaii?

Now you can understand why I really didn't want this Mods position in the first time!

Hey, if you guys seriously think I'm overdoing the "policing" in here, please tell me.&nbsp I've been ignoring a ton of Mod complaints in here, and I don't address every single problem people complain about - I'm only acting on about 50% of the complaints right now!

Me and rotarygod got history... &nbsp His posts offer nothing to the thread except taunt me; even if he taunted someone else, I would've still jumped on his ***, if you can believe it.

I find the sheer number is posts in here a bit to much.&nbsp We really need to get the Archive all sorted - it should cut down posts by at least HALF.&nbsp I just want to keep the non-FC stuff out of here as much as possible...

Hey Ted, I think your doing a great job!

Heck if you could even get half the "I'm lame and here are pictures of my unmodded SE" and the "can I beat?/I got beat/I just beat" threads (that really belong in the lounge or other places) gone you'd cut out 25% of the crap threads in this section, right there.

Damn straight. Local threads, pictures of my car, I got beat, all those threads don't belong in here. People should be able to come to this section and see serious tech discussions, ideas, and questions relating to 2ND GENS.

If people keep posting local crap in here, move it. Tell people to be more descriptive in thread titles. Etc, etc.

As far as a new How To/Write Up section, it would be lots of work, but worth it in the end. Maybe have a big brainstorming thread listing everything we feel needs to be in there, find volunteers to do a write-up or article or something on each topic, make it into a thread, leave just the original post (obviously everything would have to be completely in one post) and move it to the new section. Rename all the arhives "Write Ups, How Tos, FAQs, and Other Useful Information."

Just remember Ted you started **** with me not the other way around. You being a moderator puts me at a disadvantage since you can delete or ban at your own will. I don't post bs but bs is what the responses often are and then I get flamed for those other interpretations. I can always come back under a different name anyways. You may not think this as true but regardless of our history together I still think you are a very intelligent individual and do contribute quite a bit to the site. You are just far too fast to critisize on something that you have never tried or done before. I know you have an engineering background and you have my utmost respect for that. Remember engineers designs things and technicians figure out how to make them work properly. Just because something appears to work or not on paper doesn't neccesarily make it true. You critisized my intake mod and admittedly it needs an aftermarket ecu to really benefit but I did make it work with good results without. The ecu is next anyways. Still don't hate you Ted just wish the fueding between us could stop. Admittedly I am somewhat guilty of keeping it going myself. I do think the how-to section would be beneficial none the less.

Many of the things posted by people thinking that it had never been done before was tested and done 15+ years ago on our cars by enthusiets just like those that inhabit here.

*SNIP*
Looks like a LOT of people have a misconception of the Mod status.
1) There are section mods (which most of them are) and Super Mod.&nbsp Section Mods can't really do **** - I was a section mod.&nbsp Basically, section mods have options to control threads - that's it.
2) The delete (thread) function is still fucked.&nbsp They claim they are working on it.
3) Section Mods can't ban anyone.&nbsp You need to PM the owners or any of the Super Mods.&nbsp You can contact a Section Mod, but they will just pass it onto a Super Mod or higher.&nbsp ANYONE can submit a complaint to the Admins for banning someone who is out of line - I don't see why more people don't do so.

It also looks like they finally pulled my (Section) Mods status - so your point is all moot.
