i was thinking about trying to buy an mr2 turbo this summer, but im not sure if i would try to keep the turboII as well.
the T2 is cool, unique, has a rotary, and is fun.
but so are the mr2 turbo's

OBEY YOUR MAZDA
Go check out the junkyards, and tell me what you see.... Yup a lot of rearend f***ups, be careful with mr2s they are kindda tricky and needs a skilled drivers attention when driven to the llimit.
But I would get an MR2 over any 2nd gen(less problems)
Just my 2 cents---KIM

The 1991-1993 versions of that model had some badness in the rear suspension geometry that made them like to swap ends without provocation. You're better off with a 1994+, they changed the rear a little to make it less likely to spin off into a ditch for no reason.

The MKII Turbo MR2 is an EXCELLENT car. It's engine (3sgte) is regarded as one of the best 4 cylinder engines of all time. The talon/eclipse engine (46G3?) and the SR20DET are the other contendors.
Many guys debale if the MKII Turbo MR2 is a better car than the 3rd gen RX-7. No doubt it is better than a TII FC3S RX-7, but it's debatable if it's better than an FD3S RX-7 or not.
Get the MR2 Turbo is you can afford it.

Yes but rotary! something about the engine, when I first was infomed about it I new I had to have a car with one no matter the cost, which is rather small, and plus driving a unique car with a unique motor, for a guy with a unique personality, fits together nicely

I would stick with the TII only because I'm a weirdo. I sat in my friends turbo MR2 and I didnt like the seating position and the ergonomics sucked *** compared to my FC (keep in mind that Im like 20 feet tall). I drove it around and it felt pretty good but I dont like the way the shifter is positioned very high. Other than that, the car felt good. I've always wanted one until I sat in it.
One thing thats good about the MR2 is the fact that you can actually sell it to the general public at a good price. Try selling the TurboII to Joe American and he will run away cuz these things catch fire and the apex seals have to be replaced every 2k miles.
ps.
Working on the motor sucks ***. I helped my friend take out the turbo and I thought I was going to die. There is no room back there. Hire a midget to do your mechanic work.

My friend has a MKII Mr2, if you want a fast car keep the t2, mr2 is nice and stuff but a four banger? Bah. Have you EVER seen a mr2 drag car? No. They are classed the same if just about every other auto sport (autocross).

Theres nothing wrong with piston cars. Get the "pistons suck" mentallity out your head. The RX-7 will never lose!

yeah, get that pistons suck mentallity out of your skull... if i was given a 300zx TT or supraTT, i would totally not have a turboII. i only got this car cause i like rotaries and it is a cheap fast car that looks good.
i think rotaries are cool, but i have nothing against pistons. if every badass import car (skyline, supra, 300zx) had a rotary, it would be cool,
but pistons come with the territory...

I don't have the pistons suck mentality. I have the four bangers suck mentality.
Have you ever seen an mr2 drag car? Have you ever seen an mr2 in the 12's even?
If they had potential in drag racing, why hasn't anyone exploited it?

Anyways, back to the original topic.
MR2s are cool but I hate working on them. RX-7s are cool but I hate putting out fires. Lose lose situation

those pre-92' MR2's are trouble.... rear suspension geometry is a killer.
"normal" people never 'find' the problem though. as long as your easy in the corners, or drag race, youll be fine.
