worth it??

Well I have a chance to get my FC... but I have some doubts... I would like to know from you guys if it is worth it to buy...

First lets start with what it is... 1987 NA coupe. The car has a lot of extra stuff on it:
Short shifter(dont know what kind)
Racing beat full exhaust
Air filter(just a cone intake filter)
Racing beat Springs ( 1 inch drop)
Koni Adjustables ( i think the back 2 are starting to go but still have some life in them)
older Aiwa head unit(cd player)
rims and tires (I dont consider these to be a real plus other than I will have tires that will not be replaced therefore I dont know what brands)

thats all the extra features of the car but now comes the story along with the bad stuff... car is white but mirrors and head light are purple, and hood has no color to it... bare metal...(rest of the car is white with only 1 dent in the driver side rear easily fixable) the interior is completely stripped out behind the driver and passenger seats(which I was going to do anyway)... the front interior is in ok shape but some of the plastic is missing and the clips just dont line up.. the engine has 199,000 miles on it and NO rebuild... I drove it and it seems strong but I have to wonder how much longer it will last...

the car has been sitting for 1 month being that the guy has bought a new truck and bought his wife a new car as well. He doesnt want it because he has 2 kids now and has no need for a 2 seater. The body of the car has nearly no rust whatsoever and the engine bay is relatively clean. The only bad thing is that it did not start because it had been sitting for a month... he had a little jumper there and by the time he had walked from the engine to the door it started. engine reved to about 2K then dropped slowly to about 1K a little bit of rough idle which he says is an idle sensor(something like that) which he replaced, it has had a rough idle for about 10 minutes after initial start ever since...

He is asking 1300 but I think I can get him to 1100 the only thing that conserns me is I have never seen him get in it and start it since he used the cables... I know I will have to rebuild this engine sometime in the relative future so thats not really an issue but I would like to ask you guys if it is worth it for 1100 bucks with all the extras?

I didnt think there were series 5's until 89... (correct me if I am wrong) like I said above I dont really expect this to last too long maybe the summer... but is it expected that if it was sitting for a month that it probably would have to be jumped? assuming that it was not being driven much before anyways...

I've heard of N/As running well over 200k no problem, but have also heard of them giving out way before that too...
probably depends on if the guy has run the **** out of it all the time, and if you want to go to the expense of getting it painted and possibly some interior work (assuming you do want it to look nice).

I guess another thing to consider is where you are. I hear of people getting killer deals on 7s all the time of the forum, but I snatched mine up real fast and have never seen another one anywhere close to here other than mine. Looking back, I would be willing to pay twice what I did for mine because they are so rare around here and EVERYONE FEARS THE 7!!!

No. It's a horrid deal. Awful. Give me his contact info and I'll... talk him down to something reasonable... yes... something reasonable... for my collection...

That's not bad at all. Expect to rebuild the engine (though you already are). It's getting towards end of life for even a well maintained engine. And when it does blow, don't expect much in it to be usable. Housings & such will probably be WELL out of spec. :-)

As for starting, meh. If it won't start without the cables, a new battery is $40 or $50. As long as it turns over strong & shows 14v or so while running, the starting system should be fine.

Are you planning to paint it, or leave it? I'd get some primer on there (even just cheap spray primer) soon to prevent rust (unless it's the aluminum hood... I'd polish the heck out of that!).

first off, 87 = s4....

its impossible to have an s5 1987 car...

if you keep it and the engine pukes out on you, my advice would be engine swap instead of rebuild. do a TII swap. that's the best bang for the buck.

the alternator voltage is what is shown on the guage as the car is running.... it doesnt run off the battery.

maybe it had a weak battery. or the engine could have been flooded recently, and he used all the battery juice in an attempt to start her up. ya never know.

it is not worth 1000 in my opinion.

you can find much better RX-7's for cheaper. Wait on this one. Bad deal for a junky S4 with high miles.
