Worst pedals of all time horror story...
First of all, I bought some $20 foot pedal covers a few weeks ago for my fc just because i figured they were better than not having any on them. but anyways, after class I was getting ready to get on the highway, so I decided why not run hard for a bit. So I floor it and shift to 2nd, well thats when I feel something from the gas pedal but i dismiss it. Well when i went to push in the clutch I hear this awful grinding noise coming from the tranny and the pedal was stuck to floor! I was shitting bricks at this point, so I turn of the car and pull over to the road. I was originally thinking if there was something wrong with the throttle cable, but no it was the stupid gas pedal that got wedged to the floor >_<
So i unscrewed it and drove it home,
And the moral of this story is to not buy accessories from autozone, and if need some kind of pedals, just use grip tape...

Well then.
I paid... $50 for some Sparco pedals used off of ebay? If you really need something grippy so your feet aren't slipping off of the pedals, look around there. IIRC there was another set from Sparco that were nearly black had 3 or 4 holes in them, they looked like they would be pretty good.

You could also just order the OEM pedal covers from Mazda. They're really pretty cheap. I put away a set just in case they ever stop stocking them, but if memory serves, it's $5 each for the clutch and brake pedal covers. I didn't order the gas pedal cover because mine's in great shape, but I would guess it isn't a lot more money. Why fool around with tape or cheap aftermarket junk?

on another note: I have a lot of buddy's that go cheap and buy grip tape from skateboards and use that.

The same thing happened to me! I bought a RX-7 with cheap pedal covers. I was merging on the highway and when I floored the gas pedal, a screw that extended through the pedal cover went through the carpet and pinned the pedal to the floor! I hit the brakes to bring the rpms down then turned the key off. I drifted for a little then used my foot the release the pedal. I used grip tape on the gas pedal. It feels fine.

I have had 2 sets of pedals on my car, neither of them got stuck.
One was pep boys special, and current ones someone here used to make
you need to pay more attention to how they mount, no screws- bolts, and just long enough that they dont stick way out

Exactly
Most any aftermarket anything is generically designed for fit. Many times physical modification will be needed to the unit to insure proper fit and operation. I've run a set of these on one of my Verts for 5+ years and have never had a problem.

i'm using checker orielly's pedals they where the least rice looking pedals i could find and at first the gas pedal side was rubbing with the carpet so i tilted it and moved it slightly to the left, but now its too close to the the brake pedal and once in a while my foot catches both pedals at once. i'm going to cut the gas pedal and only leave the black part without the silver.

These are the ones I got, and they've actually held up well over the past 3 or so years.
The rubber sticks nice to shoes, but is a BITCH when wet. And yes, those maroon floormats are long gone.

They are Sold by WALMART I think..or Canadian Tire(Canada).!.they have little Spikes surrounding the Holes.Like Golf shoe spikes, sort of thing.Price is 30 bucks??(long time ago).
The Grip on the Pedal to Foot is really GOOD!.it Stabs your shoe bottoms so your foot won't slip!
You just have to take your time installing them so that the Clearance between the Pedals is adequate enough so that you don't hit the brake when you think you are Ramming your foot on the clutch pedal..haha..or you stop real quick, instead of shifting!..
It is Funny to do,But ya feel sort of stupid when it happens!..haha..(Ya,I did it a couple times!)

Personally I made a custom gas pedal cover in the same shape as the stock one, just wider. I covered it in skateboard tape, but a rubber coating would have been fine for the gas pedal.
