Worn out cat and major exhaust smoke
89' GTU, 107k miles, nearly all stock.
My main cat is obviously on it's last leg, the heat shield is comming off it and all. I was wondering if this could be related to the smoking that I get at high rpm (= high exhaust temps) or if I'm just trying to be optimistic when my real problem is oil control rings?

yeah, well, it smells heavily like.... exhaust. It's not sweet smelling or anything. I was just wondering if the buildup in the cat could be smoking from the high exhaust temps produced at higher rpms. I also noticed that after heaving revving/driving after I turn the car off the cat literally smokes for a couple of minutes.

I'm going to apologize in advance if I seem a little annoyed. Yes, I know oil smoke is blue and coolant smoke is white, and a rich fuel mixture is very dark grey or black. However the color is kind of a whitish/blueish/greyish color. I mean, exuast smoke is exhaust smoke. I know it's not coolant, If anything I would say oil, but it smells gassy like I'm running a little rich. But mostly it just smells like exhaust, like you stuck you your nose up a tail pipe. However, regardless of the color, is it possible for a bad cat to produce large amounts of smoke, of any color, at high rpms?
