Hey, the acrylic idea is a good one but I dont know of anywhere I can get it around here in bars. If anyone knows where I could get a bar about 4 ft long(I'll make some and sell them) shoot me a PM.
Yeah I knew the balsa think was a joke, but hey...lighter is better right?

You'd save more weight by giving yourself an **** flush before the race.... Hope no one just ate.

Yeah, if you have access to a CNC lathe then it would be pretty easy to crank them out. As long as you had some way to bore the holes straight. I always have problems center boring anything at my home shop because my drill press is older than I am by a factor of 1.75:1. I have access to a full machine shop with nice center boring mills and such so its not as much an issue these days. I honestly think that if you were to make these and attempt to turn a profit you're kidding yourself, or you work cheaper than those kids kathy lee hires to make her k-mark crap. Cost per unit is going to be far greater than profit potential compaired to the billet ***** you can get for 35 bucks. You'll have close to a hour of handling time with each of these if you do any kind of polishing on it at all after threading them.

Jimmy, we've got 4 lathes, 2 verticle mills and 3 or 4 drill presses at school(where I'm making them) and I'd probabl just have my friends go in on buying the stock with me and I'll turn them out.Screw polishing. I'm not looking for real profit, if any. I just want to make a few, and see what I can do with our new lathes.

draw them up on pro tools and do them cnc....

granted you'll cut them faster than my 304SS clutch slave cylinder push rod took me, but you'll still need to clean them up somehow if you want them to look good. I'm all about playing with power tools. just be warned that selling these will lead you to bankruptcy especially if the school finds out. (they believe in profit sharing and take a very healthy cut)

We dont have protools or a cnc lathe, our school district doesnt reall give a crap about our indusrtial arts. And my school wouldnt give a crap about me selling stuff I used their machenery to make, like I said, they dont care about industrial vocational stuff. They're hacking the whole program's sq.footage nearly in half for the new high school that's going up in the next two years.

Ah, I use the machine shop at my university. As long as I don't do anything production run sized and make sure to say anything I'm making is for myself or a "friend" I can get away with it. My boss at school has his Ph D in industrial education and also happens to be a performance car enthusiast too, so we have fun making car parts together.
