Wont hold idle

OK . . . here's my new problem. My rex wont hold an idle. It's turing over just fine and will run if I have my foot on the petal. When I release the petal just enough to get it under the 2 the car shakes and the idle revs become eratic. the only thing I could think it is, is a vacuum leak. Before somebody wastes thier breath, IT IS NOT THE COMPRESSION!! (I joined this forum to get help from people who know and care about rx-7's. so far, no luck.) CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME! with my ilding issue?

So this means you HAVE checked it it and found it good then?

I'd start looking for vacuum leaks, check to be sure all the hoses are hooked up properly and in good shape. Also check the idle speed screw settings and TPS setting. A faulty or out of adjustment TPS can cause lots of weird idle problems.

You might not have been getting good help because nobody wants to cover the same topic over and over again.

Take a look at this to make sure the TPS is good.

Vacuum leaks, Throttle Position Sensor in case you don't know, check for solder wiring..battery could also be an issue...hmm..

You know what, check all of the above. There's no harm in making complete sure that your car runs trouble-free.

I'll check all those things and see what happens. Thank you to: ibrakestuff, force fed, and RxSven. And to Jpk3200, if you have the link to the answer then post post here, if not there is no need to be D-bag.

Did you even read my post? I pasted a link on how to check the TPS, which could be the culprit of your problems. Yeah, it could be a vacuum leak too, but nobody had posted how to check the TPS yet, so I did.

And yes, a quick search for something along the lines of "idle problems" would bring you more results than you can handle.

Thats my idle thread, tons of good info in there, lots of stuff to check, if you take the time to read the FAQ's, read the posts people are making in your thread, it'll start to make more sense.

A crappy is probably the most common complaint on here, and it's been addressed hundreds of times....

Rough idle Diagnosis Simplified

And just a note to some of our newer members, please just please take the time to use the search button, when it's a topic like this people will most likely just pass over it because it's ultra common and has already been resolved time and time again. Don't get hurt when someone says, search or read the FAQ's, it's good advice. We are all on the same team here.

thank you Jpk3200 for the tips on the TPS, I'll look into it. (here's the thing about searching, I DID, and found it very hard to find what I need amoungs all the babble. Again you miss the point of the post:

rude and condescending?? You'll see rude and condescending on this board but it doesn't read like my post above, with multiple links with to helpful info.

And the throttle position sensor is what everyone says is responsible for an erratic/crappy/non existent idle, 9/10 it's not the TPS and believe or not it is possible to add to the confusion and frustration of idle diagnosis by making unneeded adjustments to various engine components.

You seem to be very receptive to input, I'm sure you'll resolve your idle issue quickly.

So anyways I have an issue which from my knowledge, has yet to be posted. The TPS is fine. I adjusted the screw infront of the TPS and got the car to idle on it's own above 3. Just when I thought I had made some progress, an alarm went on, AGAIN, and the idle went down, the car started backfireing inthe lower idle and it died, again. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ALARM?!! The only thing I could think it is, is the shift alarm, but wtf is is doing going off b4 redline? Any ideas?

If you're getting an alarm, there might also be CEL codes that can help solve the problem. Dumping the CEL codes in a S4 is a bit tougher than in an S5, but it might be worth the effort. I think the problem is an undiscovered vacuum leak. There are a lot of places to look at besides the vacuum lines on the engine...Injector seatings, gaskets at the TB, the UIM and the LIM. I once had a slightly torn gasket between the UIM and the LIM and it was a bitch finally finding it. Don't rule out vacuum leaks. Once you finally diagnose the problem and get it fixed, poost your results on this thread.
