The ground (battery negative/black & yellow) cable goes on the long starter bolt. Positive (battery-power) goes on the small stud @ starter's driver's side. The ignition (small gauge) wire slides onto the solenoid, located at the top of the starter, just above the two small studs. I think that's clear

thats how i hooked it up, and it just starts spinning when i have the battery in the car. like the motor just automatically starts spinning, then when i turn the key to start it, the gear slams and it grinds.

sounds like the starter is spinning in place, when you turn the ign. the solenoid pushes the allready spinning pinion into the stationary flywheel. (thus the beautiful grinding sounds). Make sure you don't have anything shorted out. Also something may be wrong with the starter, take it to autozone and have them test it out for you.

remove the clip and see if it still spins, if it does, well then you've either got a bad starter, or somehow positive power is getting fed to that male spade connector or whatever the hell you want to call it.

i just took the starter up to autozone. the solenoid and everything works as it should.

i think the problem was we had both of the wires (coming straight from the battery mind you) going straight to the starter, causing it to spin up right when i hooked the battery up. we're about to go put it in, i'll post after we see what happens.

it should never spin until positive power is fed to the spade connector on the solenoid.

i had the negative battery wire connected to the other post on the starter, when it should have been grounded to the OUTSIDE of the starter (like on one of the big starter bolts)
