Wiring Harness (aftermarket)

I think it would be cool if we could some how get Painless Wiring or someone like them to start making wiring harness for our cars. There is supposidly only like 2 or 3 left of brand new harness at Mazda and they want like $900 or somthing for em. I would really like a new harness but not so badly that I am gonna dump like $900 on one. Anyway if anyone has any idea on how we could get one of these companys to start producing new harness for our cars that would be great. Post any ideas here as I am getting tired of patching up my old dried up harness.

I have been approached by several people to do one, but the cost would rule out most people buying it.

Most FC owners are notoriusly cheap... and would not pay $700- 600 for a new engine harness even if it was with teflon coated wiring and heat resistant covering (like painless uses).

And to make an engine harness even the slight bit worth doing, at $600 I would need to sell at least 25.

Come back when you have 25 customers with a pre paid total of $15000 cash in hand and I'll build the 25 harnesses.

Sounds like a great idea Icemark, I know I cannot be the only one in need of a new harness. I somtimes suspect the harness for some of the strange ways the car runs at times. Somtimes it seems right on and other times it seems a hic up jsut shows up out of no where and then disappears. Either way a new harness could not hurt. Well if I can round up 25 people I will be in touch.

99% of the FC owners balk at paying $60 for a proper crimping tool, let alone the correct connectors and wire. And where are you going to get the proper ECU Connectors? Have you ever seen the min special order requirements from TYCO?

Yep, I was in charge of the custom interface harness program at DEI and GM-SPO for a while.

Who is gonna pay $600-700 for a stock wiring harness when you can spend a little over a grand and get a standalone with a new harness anyway?

Well where I currently sit with mods is where I am staying. It could be argued I need a "stand alone" with where I already am but I dont think its necessary yet. I got hte 1.7v and if anything I will do the 2.0v from Digital Tuning which will be as close to a stand alone as I will ever need. I do not plano on running 10 seconds. I have already been running mid and low 12s. I have a street proted motor on the way and with that I would be extremly lucky to probably break 11s. My car is just a street car that is all bolt on mods that I like to just have fun with. I am not a serious racer or anything and never will be. So for me I would not mind having a new harness. I agree though TII owners are cheap. After I get this new motor in I am gonna look at suspension upgrade and brake upgrade then I am calling the car done.
