Windshield trim quick question

Does anybody know if the trim at the top of the windshield can be replaced without removing/replacing the whole windshield? (I'm getting the car painted and it would be nice to not have to mask this)

victoria british sells just the rubber weather stripping so that may mean that you can replace only the stripping.

The Mazda parts fiche also shows it as a separate piece but my body/paint guy seems to think otherwise - anybody ever replaced theirs?

Yes,it's separate, and yes, it's replaceable without removing the windshield. Any decent windshield shop should be able to get the piece.

Don't mask it, strip it off!

All of the trim can be replaced without taking the windsheild out. If you are having the car painted, remove all of it, top bottom and sides.

The rear hatch moulding can be replaced as well without
removing the glass.

Cool - thanks all for the answers. It definately wont be masked, the only masking for this job is back masking (covering the body holes from the inside). Literally everything that was touching the paint has been removed; bumpers, side moldings, side lights front/back, tail lights, side mirrors, door handles, antenna, 3rd brake light, Mazda/RX-7 emblems, sunroof, fuel filler lid, scoop trim on hood, windshield squirters on hood, FTP lenses; this was the last piece.

Henrik, did you pull off all of the molding yourself and deliver the car to the shop in that form?

How much are you paying to have the paint job done....how much did you save if you did pull these yourself?

Thanks

Are you saying the $600 windshield trim is only $6 ?? If so where do I buy it from?

Victoria British doesn't carry it (just the seals) and Mazda wants somewhere between $450-$600 I think.
