will painting my 3'' intercooler pipes silver affect heat transfer??

I am having my engine rebuilt and painted all silver. While I have it sent away, i'll paint the intake mani's, front cover, and thinking to paint the intercooler pipes for thw front mount(godspeed 12''/24''/3'')as well. I think it would look so fresh to have everything the same color. I have a black t2 so i'll be able to clean the engine bay while its out and so forth. also I have a microtech lt8s so all the crap is gone, and all wires will be loomed black. What do you guys think???

I doubt it, if anything the paint will help to insulate what's in the pipe. Just my thoughts, could be wrong.

thats what I think to. I could see it affecting the intercooler coreitself but not under the engine where the pipes are. What do you guys think?

a layer of high temp paint is going to do almost zero as far as insulation is concerened.

If you want insulation then ceramic coating is the way to go. I got some of my intercooler piping ceramic coated black. Pics are in my 500R Vert buildup thread.

The color of your intake piping won't make a tinker's damn worth of difference...paint 'em pink if you like.

If you think about it, how much time do you suppose an air molecule spends in that pipe before meeting it's maker in the combustion chamber?

If you are old enough you will remember an old arguement. If silver reflects heat, and black absorbes heat; why do they paint steam radiators silver, and car radiators black?

that's radiant heat, dude... I don't think internal thermal energy cares about what color of material the particles collide with.

If I were internal thermal energy, I would prefer the particles collide with the color red... but hey, you don't see me painting my IC pipes red. I'm tired.

Yes, I think that will make a good-looking color combination. No, I don't think it will affect the heat transfer worth a hill of beans. You could use ceramic coating that has a nice silver look, and that would affect the heat transfer, although it would not make a significant difference in performance unless you are racing professionally and 0.01 second could mean the difference between winning and losing.
