will cold air intake on a turbo HELP keep tmic from heat soak?
I just got a really cheap setup for a 92 prelude cold air intake. basicly its like the regular intake but it has two aluminum tubes instead of one so it can go all the way down to behind the tire I guess. Anyways I got it for like 20 bucks so I'm going to hack it up and make a cold air intake to go right to the front of the car near the radiator (not to the ground because in louisiana it is raining 90% of the time). Anyways do you guys think a cold air intake will help (not prevent) stock tmic from heat soak??? Thanks!

I would try a true CAI like mine and also try and fabricate a water misting system. Just get a washer bottle setup from O'reily and hook up a fine misting nozzle to shoot right on the TMIC. This will create evaporative heat transfer which will greatly help headsoak during low speed driving and between drag runs.

hum.......interesting. So I could get this from o'reily huh? crazy! also what would be the differance from my cai and yours? yours is near the tire right??? Mine will be infront of the radiator and I might even make it to where the electric fan is blowing right on it kind of forcing air into it.

Btw the fine mist nozzle you might need to see a gardening store for it. I would've said use a regular washer nozzle but that will just drench the IC which isn't the best imo. Mist vapor will easily evaporate causing heat transfer and cooling the metal in the IC.
That will allow it to remove more heat from the air intake charge.

Well the only semi-hard to find part would be the nozzle. I would definately set this up facing the rear of the car, at the front of the scoop. This way it would spray onto the top of the IC itself. You can pick up a wiper bottle/motor setup at any local parts stores but I saw them at O'riely. From there use some rubber hose(vac line) to run to the nozzle. Moun the nozzle and test for proper angle/direction. Ofcoarse this is assuming you have rigged up a switch/button to trigger the washer motor/pump and wired everything. I am not an electronics guy by any means but you get the basic idea.

how do you plan to keep the water cool? Spraying 90 degree water on a intercooler isn't going to do anything. Also if you want to stop heat soak on your t2 top mount get a FMIC. Mine is cool to the touch after driving. I could never say that about my top mount.

Any water drips at the track will get you sidelined.
Need a quick cool down for the IC between runs?
Get a can of the computer dust off at Wal-Mart for $4.
(The rednecks here call it "blow job in a can")
Turn it upside down & spray the liquid CO2 on the fins.

That said, I'm not a fan of water spray kits at all unless you're a real drag racing kinda guy. Makeshift water spray kits from the hardware store can work well for a drag racer at the track, especially on a hot day. Misting the IC down the track will help, especially if the car has been idling waiting for a run. But, ona street driven ar there is virtually no practicality to it. Who wants to refill a water tank every day or so for the minimal effect it will have. At the drag strip, a couple of tenths can be huge depending on what kind of racing you're doing. On the street = only a PITA.
Now, mitsubishi and subaru have had water spray kits for years in various Evo's and WRX's. They come from their rally cars and are useful in that setting where a stage only lasts a few minutes. However, it's just a gimmicky add-on for the road-going version.

couldn't I just use the stock water bottle for the winshield wipers? Mine are so gummed up at the nozle that it doesn't work anyways so I may just use that and run the wire down to the ic. What do you guys think??? Also I don't think it would be a pain in the *** for a weekend car and not for a permanent fix either. I'm just trying some cheap fixes for now until I can aford a fmic. This is what I got for the cai just incase anyone else wants alot of tubing for pretty good price http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT
