I think the gear ratios are the same, the 89-91 are identical, but the 87-88 have a slight lower fifth gear ratio. Plus the fd uses a pull type clutch.

No, it won't fit.&nbsp You can change the bell housings (the core trans case is basically indentical), but the input shaft is slightly shorter on the FD3S transmission.

So, basically, if you want to put in the fd tranny on an fc, you need to get a whole different clutch system, (i am ***-u-me-ing) AT LEAST the slave cylinder, possibly master cylinder, a 3rd gen clutch, probly 3rd gen driveshaft, possibly the diff, (unless you fab up the drive-shaft to mate with the stock tII diff?), and that would about cover it? probly need to fab up a cross-member, and will it even place the shifter in the correct place for a second gen??

looks like after all that, even for someone that doesnt know what the hell the inside of a transmission looks like first hand would just have an easier time putting in the 3rd gen 5th gear and synchro huh?

FD's use the PPF system which "bridges" the transmission and rear diff.
There's this funky brace under it that I doubt would just drop into an FC.
The FD bell housing is like around 1.5" shorter than the FC (turbo) bell housing.

...or get an S5 Turbo II transmission.
It has the exact same 5th gear ratio - 0.719.

wow ted, youre ******* awesome...again! so, i suppose the next thing on my list aside from an upgraded radiator is an s5 transmission that doesnt have a shot 5th gear synchro...so i guess youre saying the 5th gear ratio is the same for s5 and s6 trannies?
