Will 275/50/15 tires fit on stock wheels without rubbing?

Hi everyone,

I was searching around and I have found threads like this that answer the question of will a 275mm tire fit in the rear of a FC but I cannot find any threads that answer whether or not I will be able to bolt the wheel & tire combo right on without rolling the fenders or adding spacers (or both). It seems like everyone is running a 40 profile on 17" wheels, no 15" love.

That's what I'm trying to answer. Can I slap a set of 275/50-15 tires on my stock rear wheels and call it a day or will I need to make some tweaks? If so, what kind of tweaks?

Right now I have 235/60-15s on there and those fit with some wiggle room to spare so I'm thinking I'll be ok but I don't want to have to have a huge project just to change out tires.

Thanks!

For reference I have an 88 GXL with the stock 15" wheels, KYB adjustable shocks on the rear at the moment.

No. That size (isn't that like a truck tire?) is an inch taller and way too wide. If they were r comps, I'd say lets talk, but no way will you fit a street tire of that width on a stock wheel.

No way. It's not even a matter of fitting in the wheel well, that tire is just way too wide for the rim.

Ok that answers that I guess. Damn, the BF Goodwrench Drag radials are getting worn out so I was looking to pick up a set of Nitto 555Rs from a friend who was using them on his Mustang Cobra.

Pipe Dream I guess.

Thanks guys!

lol, yeah I'm pretty sure that's not what "rubbing is racing" really means.

Guess I'll be using another set of 235/60-15s or if I can find a set of 255s I can try them since they are listed as being able to fit a 7" wheel width.

Stock wheels are 6" wide for the coupes, 6.5" for the convertibles, NOT 7".

I want to do it for the drag strip. For the auto-x course I will be using something with a way stiffer sidewall and larger wheel diameter.

Too wide for even a 7" rim. And would certainly rub on the trailing arm at the back, and the strut/spring on the front, even if you could get them stuffed on 6 or 6.5" stock rims. At the front, 245 is about the max, and even than is likely to require rolling and even dollying the fender, although depending on the tire and wheel offset, some have made it work without (I know someone who rolled and dollied - the extra flare to the fenders did nicely enhance the aggressive stance). At the rear I've heard of 265, again depending on offset and the tire to clear the trailing arm.
