widest rear width for fc?
ok what is the widest rim that will fit on a turbo 2 for the rear(without major modicifations? i would like to widen the rear and keep the front size. something like a 9 inch or 8.5 would be good. (the stocks are 7.5 correct?) also what size tire would fit on a 9 inch wide rim?

The rears are pretty open -- up to perhaps a ten inch rim.
The fronts are tricky, and if you want to keep it looking right, you must deal with the problems up front before you go nuts in back or it will look like ***.
So, roll the front fender wells and go 17 x 8 max with a racing spacer so you will clear the front strut. Or, before you go nuts on some huge footprint in the back, get some JIC or Tein type coilovers all around -- that is, if you have the $$$ to spend. But if you don't, then think in terms of balancing your assets equally in the rear and front, and move forward accordingly. But really, dude, dont just slap some big meat on the back. That's pretty much meaningless.
Good luck,
Nat

Stock are 7 inch wide. I have cheapo tires on the stock rims and I don't lose traction in any gear when excelerating. 8's in front and 8-8.5 in the back would be pleanty. I wouldn't go past 8 myself. Just costs more $ and slows your car down more.
I know from experience 8's all around will fit. I would suggest 8.5 with some nice 245 tires would work well for your car.

8 up front and 9.5 in the rear.
I'm running 7.5 with 225 (they don't make 8" in my rim) and I have 9.5 with 255 in the rear.
I have some pics here:

These rims are actually FS... right now and have ~400 miles on them.
