I've heard of rotaries not liking thermostats other than OE Mazda for that car.
Thats what I run.

exactly.. I have a mazda oem and the nippon they are 100% identiacl in size and shape all dimensions are exact

no problems here

what temperature thermostat did you buy, i understand you can buy ones that open at different times?

There is no need to use a thermostat with a different opening temp than stock. You should only but the right thermostat for the car, and only from Mazda.

just thought I'd mention, I use RO water ONLY in my car. Tap water will mess you up real quick.

Be careful with RO (reverse osmosis) water too...
They tend to do really fucked up things due to the water being "too pure".

Distilled should be what you're looking for.
