Mazda is set to launch this handsomely revamped RX-7 this fall. The new rotary rocket will employ an innovative three rotor wankel engine that should increase performance considerably. No words yet on price.

Interesting ... They had it all ready to go until setting up a price and then probly came to a conclusion that it was going to be to expensive for the average public. So to decrease the price they had to take a rotor out. Thats kinda how I look at it from the evidence that RB_eater stated.
What blows me away though is they had the ad ready and everything and backed up a bit and thought hey lets take a rotor out.

They had problems with transmissions and cooling. The R-type manual tranny was not holding up, and the cooling system was going to be engine dependent ( as opposed to the Turbo, which used the same exact cooling system as the non turbo 13B).
Price was just the final issue that killed S5 and S6 sales in general.
And that was not an ad. It was a car magazine that saw prototype testing of the 3 rotor and they concluded that it was going to be a production model. Much like last month Motor week posted the BS about a new RX-7 or 6 months back Road and Track did the same thing.
