why are my gears so long?
has anyone else on here with a S5 NA noticed how horribly long the gears are? i've done a couple little stoplight races with my friends (against a turbo miata that runs mid 13's and an integra typeR runs low 14's, and a couple other relatively quick cars) and noticed that i can launch harder than both of them, and i am always ahead til about 40mph or so. then the story changes,
i shift to second real hard and fast and usually tach it out. I AM NOW AT 70MPH by the time i am at 8000rpms in second, switch to third and i make it up to about 110-115 before taching out.
why is my second gear so horribly long? who could possibly need to go 70mph in second when the next gear is just one shift away...? i get burned every race because i dont have enough power to push all the way through that horribly long second gear.
has anyone else noticed this? maybe its just a S5 NA thing...

Yea, our cars are like that. IMO 2nd gear is the best, my car is pulling hard up to 7000 (stock port S4), and pulls like that all through 3rd. You shouldnt be losing because of this, I wouldnt think. Are you sure the Aux ports and VDI are working correctly?

On my stock N/A dyno sheet, power drops off right at 7000 RPM, so I wouldn't go too much past that, shifting there should drop it back to above 4500 RPM, which is getting right back into the engine's sweet spot.

I noticed the same thing, although my 2nd gear does not quite go to 70mph, my 2nd gear goes to about 100km/h (about 60mph). I got S5 NA, but then again that was running on low compression on rear rotor so when rebuilt it may go to 70mph....who knows....

Lighten your car bro!! Don't get beat by a F-ing Miata!!! I love that long second and third gear, Exveryone else has to shift, I don't. 75 in second, 108 in third (GPS verified). I would like to eventually get the lower gear set though because 5th gear on my car is useless right now. It will go faster in 4th!
