Why are my dashlights always on?
Ok I have had nothing but problems with my car and its lights.
86 n/a coupe.
A while back I think it was lat last year I replaced the headlight harness.. it was clearly smoked on one side. after putting the new harness in I had a problem with my dash ights and colum lights on whenever I turn the key on or while the car is started... this included all my running lights.. (basically it made turning the headlight switch to stage 1 aka running and dash lights not needed)
Well about 3 weeks to a month ago my dash lights stop working weather the lights were on or off.. I just installed a new headlight switch (which had a burn on the plug) and harness two days ago (which looked fine this time).. I checked my front running lights and the sockets were fine but I replaced the lights and packed the end of the bulb with di-electric grease anyays. Now when u start the car (or even turn the key to on) again all the dash and column lights as well as all the running light on the car are on.
WHY is this happening?
I have searched and did not find a real answer to this EXACT problem/question
thx in advance

probably you used wrong bulbs , or have a burnt headlight switch harness.
and your bump has been deleted. Bumps are forbidden here in the 2nd gen RX-7 technical section

I changed the bulbs after I tried them first... the lights were on so I bought new bulbs (the correct bulbs) and well this has been a problem for some time.. I just put in a good condition used headlight harness and a used but in good shape headlight switch... still have problems...

well lets make sure we are on the same page.
Dash lights = the lights that luminate the gauges and Logicon
Parking lights = the lights that are at the 4 corners and exterior sides of the vehicle which include the two lights in the front bumper and the tail lights.
Turn signals = the second part of the bulbs in the front bumper and the yellow lights in the taillights.
Column light = the little light that luminates the key at night when the door is open.
Idiot lights = the lights next to the clock that tell of failure or problems.
Dome light = the light at the top of the car that turns on when you open the door (some models will also have dome lights on the door).
Now using the above definitions, tell me again which lights are coming on at what time.

Now if you have the wrong headlight switch harness, they will not work correctly and will do strange things like turn the high beams on when you flip the turn signal to the right.

Dome light = dome light setup is burned out or at least the bulbs are bad I have not replaced those yet
