AH! That's my plan too! I thought it was a good idea, just like the JDM Infini V car but in the states. the lighter the better. I haven't seen a single U.S. non-sunroof TII yet, I think I'd be the first in the country to do the swap. It'd be pretty trick.

All T2s were sunroof in the US. I checked, because I used to want one. The only way to get a non-sunroof FC here is to find a base model (rare) or a GTUs (super rare) or somehow import a J-spec car (mega hard) or convert your sunroof model to non-sunroof (break out the cutoff wheels, MIG welder, and hope your body work ability is decent).

I'd probably end up doing the latter. That's not even caring about the weight, I just want to fit in the damn car

(yes I do have an FC... somewhere in the garage... just waiting for Ohio to repeal their emissions laws, and then it starts getting built - that or it'll wait until 2012 when it is emissions exempt. No sense in building up a car that has to pass emissions...)

Well, one of my motivating factors is that my TII is absolutly beat to ****. Seriously, i rescued the poor thing from the ghetto. No rust, but EVERY body panel (except roof and hood) has at least two dents in it. The rear right quarter panel is really fucked, and would probably cost $500 alone to get fixed.

So i figure i find a clean shell with enough left in it to part out to clear the cost of the shell and I'm already ahead. Plus it would give me an excuse to basically built the car from the ground up. Do kinda like seth's CYM TII. Powedcoated suspension and subframes, new paint all around... etc... etc... etc...


Same thing i was thinking. Plus It lets me put the roll bar a good 1" or 2" higher and further away from my big soft mellon.

I remember when I bought my FC: The PO had its original 13B lying around his garage and he gave it to me for free, to rebuild, when the new engine's time came. As me and my girlfriend and my dad and my cousin lifted it awkwardly into the back of our minivan, my cousin looked at me and said, "I can't get a grip. I'm not helping at all." Just as the damn thing slid out of our grasp and slammed a nice crack into the fender of the reasonably new Caravan. When we got home, my dad angrily just rolled it out of the hatch foor feet onto a dirty mattress, upon the contact of which it piledrove right through the mattress and left a huge hole in his newly paved driveway.

I've had 2 87 TII's. One weighed 2800lbs stock (HKS cat-back) on the scales and the other weighed 2880lbs stock.

The last 87 TII I had ended up being 2450lbs, with power windows, sunroof, carpet, door panels. That ~400lbs less weight makes it a lot more "lively". 13.4's @ 105 mph.

NO7YET, mostly correct but aluminum hoods came on 86 sport packages and some base/SE models too.

No a/c, ps, 300ZX wheels, 51R battery, no cats, no radio, spare tire, jack, no heater, no emissions, no front bumper support, etc.

It looked totally streetable but wasn't.

My 88 T2 weighed 2820 in stock form with 3/8 tank of gas.

My 93 Base weighed 2780 in stock form with 3/8 tank of gas.

It takes metal to make a stiff chassis, so perhaps that is part of the reason they weigh more than cars of similar size. My 90 Integra probably weighs a few hundred pounds less, but it is a much flimsier chassis than either of my RX-7s. I am sure the drivetrains are heavier on the RX-7s, too, as they have turbos and are rear-wheel drive.

Than I guess my 2720lb conversion isn't that heavy after all in street trim! no a/c or p/s but full interior, aluminum hood, aluminum radiator etc.

I had an '87 Base model SE with a factory aluminum hood. Factory freak..... maybe? I removed 37lbs of tar floor sounddeadening in this car in just the driver/passenger area!

Removing the front bumper supports or the rears is a bad idea on a street car as they are meant to save your ***!

Here are some ideas to economically save weight:
'89 T2 rims (cheap and lightweight @ 17lbs each)
aluminum hood 29lbs approx
remove carpet 15-20lbs tar sounddeadening 40lbs+
remove a/c and p/s easy 50lbs
rear seat + belts if a 2+2: 20lbs+
custom exhaust with no cats

to the extreme:
door steel crash beams
front/rear bumper support
lightweight racing seats
fuel cell
remove entire interior panels/headliner etc
carbon fiber hood
remove windows in doors, rear lexan window, and lexan windshield

Verts are heavier. This sucks. I am planning on putting this car on a diet or just look for something else to work with.

Try losing another 25lbs with a motorcycle/lawntractor battery.
Join AAA if you dump the spare/jack.
Live on slimfast/dexatrim/
Vacuum the 5lbs of dirt in the trunk and floor.
Wash the car. Wax the car and make it more aerodynamic.

Did anyone see those new centerline wheels that weigh 13.5lbs for 17x7's?

I also won't believe a Civic from '92 weighs 2000lbs. The base weight on a stripper '92 was like 2100lbs. Toss in some options and 2600lbs is believable. You'd be surprised how much that stereo, ac, pwr everthing, rims, fulltank....adds to the cars weight. Plus newer cars have more crash protection. Compare any new compact car to its equivalent from the 1980's. They all gained 500+lbs.

carpoint. you'll notice there's two models that are rated at 2094llbs. In reality they are right 2000 even, my buddy weighed his at the scrap yard, with 1/4 tank of gas.

Notice how none of those numbers are even close to 2600lb. No civic has ever been close to 2600 except for the new one.
