I find that a small amount of protection can be afforded with an after-market alarm system. THe FC's don't have anything as fancy as an "engine immobilizer" but an alarm, complete with a window sticker gives you something.

Also, I drive a beater for every day running around and parking in malls, etc. And NO ONE will break into a '96 Saturn! I just consider my destination carefully and how long it will be parked. Then I decide on the Rex or the beater.

You can open Chevy doors (most of the trucks I think, I've seen it done) with just a knife :P

But don't do it on your own car since it's a bitch to get the door and lock working again.

Theres a very simple solution to not getting windows smashed, locks busted, or your **** stolen.

1: For gods sakes leave you doors unlocked, if they want to get in, there gonna freakin get in. I don't know about you, but I aint too fond of sitting in glass, or having to get the car painted, because the lock and surrounding metal was crunched. Just pull the handle, open the door. Have a seat **** head.

2: Don't leave anything you don't want taken in the car. Got a detachable faceplate, take it with you. Keep tiawanese tools in the car and the snap-on tools in the garage. Put the SAFC under the dash, instead of on top. Make sure you inform the insurance company of ANYTHING that is non factory, hard mounted in the car. They wont cover it if they dont know about it.

3: and this is the important thing, Dont park your car in the ghetto! You got a freind that lives on martin luther king dr, make his *** come pick you up. You live on martin luther king dr? Instead of having a **** load of money in upgrades your car, you should be saving to move out of the hood. It makes no sense to drive a 30,000 lexus and live in a 3,000 trailer. ****.

I really don't like this suggestion.
You're just inviting idiots who would not normally bother with your vehicle to mess with it.
All you need is some dumbass to leave your door ajar, and you can imagine what kinda crazies that will invite.
Lock you car, but don't leave anything of value in plain sight...as I have said before.
Some go as far as to open the glove and all the bins so potential thieves will look to see nothing is worth taking.

Leaving doors unlocked and windows open is just too ludicrous an idea to prevent your windows from being broken or the locks being punched.

They can be defeated.
These locks were fight brought into the states by Eurosport in Hawaii.
Thieves quickly figured out how to defeat these things down here fairly easily.
It still doesn't prevent idiots from prying the door handle or breaking your glass.

I prefer to leave the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition, but then agian i never park it where i can't physically see it, and kudo's to the thief that gets anythig out of a 10 year old deck, or figures out where the fuel switch, battery kill switch, and aux. ignition switch is.
After 10 years i've never been locked out of any car i've ever owned.

I've often wondered about replaceing the door glass with lexan and shaveing the door handles. Eh, but thats too much trouble. I rather like the silent alarm they have now that calls you on your cell phone when the car is in trouble.

The only sure fire way to keep your car from getting stolen or boken into....dont drive it.

My key stopped working on my door locks, so I just don't lock it. I take my cd case and shove it behind the seat, and I don't usually carry anything valuable anyways. I guess it doesn't hurt that the car usually looks pretty ratty, there's usually some kind of spare part in the hatch rolling around, and I've never washed the thing.

Hey guys, just be glad not every one knows how to get in to an FC. If you know what you are doing it can be done in less than 5 sec. without damageing the car at all. I had mine broken in to. This is what I did. I want to catch the guys doing this so I bought a 2 way baby monitor from the store and left the transmitter in my car. Two weeks later I heard voices through the monitor. Long story short, I called the cops, cops came, bad guys in jail. End of story

Not to be a *****, but I wouldn't recommend anyone else doing this. You should never take a chance on sneaking up on some dude stealing your ****, cause in some cases you could seriously get messed up... What's more important.. Life or Car??? A friend of mine woke up the other day for work.. (starts at 4:00 am) went out to his car, and some dude was sitting in it jacking the deck... He was so focused on taking the deck, he didn't even notice him come out his front door. He went back inside, called the cops while watching the dude from the window. The cops pulled into the driveway behind the car, walked up to the driver's side door (the dude's still jacking the stereo, and my friend can't belive he doesn't even notice them yet.) and just as the start to say police, the dude flings the door open and starts swing this huge machete... WTF! The cops bust out the guns and get em on the ground... they find other weapons and drugs on him, and he's mangled on some drugs. The point is you have no idea what someone like that is gonna do, when intoxicated, and looking for cash for more drugs, they will kill you...

Yep, my attitude is that as much as I love my 7, I ain't going to get the **** beaten out of me for a 17 year old car. At least you guys in the States can blow any of these guys away when you see them. Up here in the Great White North, they took all our guns away. In fact, YOU can be charged if you shoot someone you find IN your house in the middle of the night. Called "excessive force." You see, up here, you're supposed to find out if they are going to kill YOU before you kill THEM.

And that's the truth.
