wow that was ridiculous. I'm gonna show that video to anyone that says rotary's are shitty. I can't believe it stayed at 9 grand for that long when the temp gauge was off the charts

I am glad these guys were able to walk away from this dumb stunt. HAs anyone ever sen a flywheel rip loose at high rpm's. I saw a guy who lost both feet to that very explosion.

OMG!!! wow , that all i can say. i am awed that the only thing that stoped the engine was temperature. simply awazing. 4 mins at 9k+ rpm and the only thing to fail was the cooling sysyem. man does mazda know its &#iT or what! i guess those guys are petty lucky the didn't get seriously screwed up. and shame on them for wasting such a car but man, that was impresive. i have a new respect for rotaries (nat that i didnt already love them) thanks for the post

Yeah repost but in a cool way.
I loved how something under the car caught fire after because of the exhaust and they scrambled to put it out.
It had a blown rotor and they said they left the radiator cap off. If the cap was still on iot would have lasted a lot longer.
Although the huge cloud was awesome.
I also thought about the flywheel/clutch flying off.
I almost did somethingn like this to my GTU since it's running on one rotor but I want to give it to Jrat as a "usuable" core hehe

If you read the thread from FC3S, it was in neutral, with the clutch pedal in the whole time, to prevent flying clutch discs and other UFO's.
The front rotor was alread blown, no radiator cap, and still ran for just shy of 7 mins at 9,000!!!! RPM. Simply awesome. Gotta love our engines. (They also said that the fresh rebuild was sitting in the garage, ready to go into the car.)
Chris- still proud of the rotary
