White Smoke=Bad....right?

Hey People- got the car back on the road but check it...So when I fire on the car, a little white smoke comes out like for the first 2 minutes and it just smells like gas I guess?

Then lets say Im driving around and I want to get on it, from first gear to around 7k theres no smoke what soever and then I shift to second and then white smoke just kind of dumps out? I guess dumps out cuz its for about 2 seconds then I look in my rear view and theres this giant white smoke in the back but only from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd nothing and 3rd to 4th and so on......wtf is going on?

1987 GXL with a "new" motor and racing beat header and straight pipe to borla muffler tips

"new" meaning just another motor pulled from another rx7

bad coolant seal... can you see air bubbles when you remove your radiator cap(do not remove when hot)

you can also try a compression leak down test and/or coolant system leak down test

If it is a bad coolant seal- be honest, does it have much more time to live? depending on hard I drive it determines that too right?

If it smells like gas and the smoke color is more gray-like, it's likely to be a cloud of fuel-oil mixture. If it's coolant, the smoke would have a distinctive sweetish smell. What do you mean by "new" motor? Recently rebuilt or used and new to you?

Used and new to me, I double check today but I dont think it had that sweetish smell to it.

Its normal for the car to smoke at startup.

Maybe your oil control seals are starting to go? My car smokes at High RPM and this is what I am leaning to.

Well I had that whey I swapped my motor. I thought it was a bad oil seal or whatnot. Read some forums and found that that I capped my Oil Crank Case and that was the issue with all the smoke after WOT. Check the Crank Case to see if it is capped off. If so, it will build pressure in there are it will smoke up like mine.

When you say cap it, you mean just the oil cap? I know if I hit the rev limiter in first or second gear(I never hit rev limiter in other gears) my car pulls a James Bond and puts out a smoke screen. I know that's the premix most likely and I've heard its normal. But then you have the other problem like I do which is the sweet smelling, eye/nose burning exhaust. That is when a coolant seal is going. So far I've driven....300 miles on it. I just think of it as giving my engine/exhaust a nice steam cleaning before I rebuild it.

I meant the oil crank case. The crank case should never have pressure.

Probably not, but since the n/a rotary is super rich there is usually residual fuel left over which causes a small amount of smoke at startup.
