where to start a s4 tII build in NC

gotta put a clutch in my mom's escort (i hate ford!!), but shortly the garage will be empty so i'm thinking of doing a turboII swap to my 7,(88 gxl) I've gone through the forum so i think i got my grocery list for what i need for the swap but it seems a lot of people end up with bum motors that need to be rebuilt anyway, so should i just save up for a rebuilt turbo II motor or should i put one together by rebuilding a bad one. No i'm not doing the v8 thing i'm getting bored and figure building a motor would boost my spirits but if its not that much cost effective then i'd rather just save and buy. so........ should i build the motor, buy a rebuilt motor, or sell my gxl to get a turbo II? I'm in g'boro NC and my buddy referred to a place in charlotte for the rebuilt motor so any hometown help is a plus.

Bruce Turrentine is in Fuquay Varina near Raleigh can rebuild a motor for you. He did a rotary rebuild video. His work is excellent, I had one of his turbo motors and I know of at least 4 other guys with them (FC and FD).

Consider buying a JDM longblock and getting that rebuilt. It will have lower mileage parts.

I ordered a S5 13b turbo engine and trans for $1300 (including shipping) from www.got-jdm.com and they have a 3 month warranty on their motors. They also compression test them before they let them leave the warehouse.

If you order a motor from them, just do a compression and leakdown test as soon as you get it still on the pallete if possible because you don't wanna waste your time getting it to work in your car and replacing gaskets and all that mess, and putting it in your car only to find out that it might be blown and need to be sent back.

Anyways, I'm in Greensboro and might be able to come by some time pm me, but i'm about to leave tomorrow to go to Australia for a couple weeks though!

btw, I'm not saying a rebuild is a bad idea, I just couldn't afford it, and when I removed my turbo 2 engine and took it apart I found both rotor housings needed replacement, not something within my price range (considering the rebuild kit can cost more than a whole jdm swap!).

So it's really up to what you want out of the car and what your capable of, and how much time and money you have to spend (both of which I don't have much of being a college student). GL.

cool, cool. If i buy a motor from online i plan on rebuilding it myself but, if your guy has a rebuilt motor ready to go, i'd try to buy that from him straight up.

my 7 isn't my only mode of transportation so it might take anywhere from 1 week to 1 year to complete it, I'm shooting for the 200 to 225 horsepower range so I'm just taking however long that takes to get there.

Bruce won't have one ready to go. Parts are too scare these days. You MIGHT be able to get a reman if you call Malloy Mazda but that is going to be $2000+
