5 point? Depends on what you mean. If you mean 5 attaching points to the car, then most are either 4 or 6. If you mean 5 points where the bars connect to each other, I don't know of any sanctioning bodies that count those. It also depends on what you need this bar for? Piece of mind? Drag racing? Road Racing?
Autopower is your best bet for bolt in cages, not sure what else is out there. Mine's a custom welded cage.

I think I ment 6 point is 6 points the to the car and 1 cross bar in the back.
at least that is what I understand from
http://www.ioportracing.com/rollbar.htm
a bolt in cage for road racing.
what kinda of cage is required for drag racing. my car has busted into the 11's and was told to get a cage or dont come back.
is there 1 cage that will fit the bill for road racing, drag racing

a bolt in cage is not legal for drag racing. you need to get one welded in. there is one company that makes a weld in kit but it's not perfect and requires a couple small changes. nothing the welder can't do while he's installing it. I can't remember who has it. other otpion is to get one custom made. I want a 6 point roll bar for mine but don't have any $$ ![Smilie](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
are you looking for a full cage or just a roll bar?

Im told that these guys have the specs for a 8 point roll bar.
www.artmorrison.com
And i ordered a 10 point roll cage from this place, so i will let you know if it lines up well, and if you need to change any measurements, for a better fit.
www.cachassisworks.com
They are all weld in, and legal for nhra, ihra, and scca

anyone ever installed a 8point roll bar?
http://www.cachassisworks.com/images/7001.gif
Is it hard to fit in, and since its welded, does that mean its just one big piece, so it would be best to take your car to the shop and get it made and installed at the shop?

RE: Cage
My cage will be in on next Wend. I ordered it from Kirk Racing Products in Alabama (They are on the web).
Most bolt in cages stay away from the body shell and let you leave the interior intact. The A Pillar tubes for instance, will stay away from the A Pillars and not go through the dash.
A custom cage is always the best idea. The custom cages I have seen being installed have to be wedged into place and "touch" the shell of the car anywhere they can.
The good thing about Kirk is that they race a second gen. I purchased the weld in kit. It is a 6 point cage. 2 for main hoop, 2 for the a pillar down tubes and 2 that go to the rear strut towers. It has a 2 cross braces in the main hoop, 2 door bars and a dash bar. I added the firewall kit that makes it a 8 point also. They are also sending me 3 sticks of material so I can go though the firewall and meet up with the front strut towers and some special bracing I need in the back.
Not trying to sell cages for them but they were very willing to work with me on the options I needed and wanted. Pretty much a custom cage. I just have to weld it. Not bad for $600.00. Give them a call, I am shure they will work within your rules and price.

I think this was the one I was talking about that the guy changed a bit. just made it fit better and go where he wanted.
when I do mine I want the main hoop on the big frame section under the rear bins, not on the floor like the autopower.
edit:
found the kirk page, just e-mailed for info

bwaits - I've talked to Mark at Kirk Racing before at an event here in Alabama. He had his car there and I got to see the roll cage installed in it. It was nice looking and more importantly was functional. You should be happy with it.

My cage "tried" to come in today, i wasnt home so now i have to arrange a pickup, i measured it myself, got it from www.cachassisworks.com ill let you know how it works out.
You actually can run just a 5 point, the 5th point is a bar that passes down the driver side door, you do not need one for the passenger side for 11.99 and under... Thats what i was told at least...

FPrep2ndGenRX7,
Thanks for the info. I chose these guys because of my first phone conversation with them. They were helpfull and wanted to know how I wanted my cage. I will let you guys know what it looks like and maybe some pics when I get it in next week.

Re: Cage
The cage came in just as they said. Shipped via truck line. Main Hoop and a-Pillar bars taped together and the rest of the tubes taped to my extra tube. Looks good. Every tube is labled. The tubes are notched and seem like it is going to go in easy. I am buying myself a digital camera for christmas, so I will take some shots of the fitment and post them. The realy neat thing is - the main hoop sits on the frame section where the bins were instead of the floor. Sweeeet!

You're in dallas from your info...
You souldnt have ANY trouble finding a local shop to weld up a custom cage for you. This is really your best bet for the best cage...

I have the 6pt Kirk racing cage in my 85 GSL-SE (bolt-in). It fit perfect and I am very happy with it. If I ever have to do another cage, I would definately get theirs.

Re: Custom cage
Not shure what the shop rate is where you are from but custom cages around Atlanta are up to 2000K+. I only have $650 invested in my cage. Sure, I will do all the labor of welding and adding bars from the normal 6 point cage, but this way I get what I want when I am done. From what I can see so far (not installed yet) a custom cage would not be any better. Realy, this is a custom cage. I can not speak for other cars but they realy nailed the second gen. I will know about the first gen in a few months though.

I have a 4 point in my Project 86 and I have the rest of the u-weld cage to complete the full cage but haven't gotten around to installing it yet. They sell a fully bolt in cage at I/O Port racing. Talk to Ken Meyers there and tell him that I sent ya
I did a writeup on my page on the 4-point if you are interested.
www.fc3s.org --> How-To's --> Safety --> Coupe Roll bar
When I get the rest welded in I'll do another write-up of the weld in portion. The bolt in part is a breeze and takes a couple of hours working at a comfortable pace with common garage tools (Drill, couple of wrenches)
