Perhaps another analogy will help in understanding. If you are shocked by a 1,000,000 Volt Tesla coil w/ verly low amps and your heart does not fibrillate and kill you you will be OK. If you are hit by 1,000,000 Volt lightning at 200,000 Amps you may explode or at least have your hair and clothes combust.

We want the air fuel mix to combust.

Thank you for making that analagy...

I however, have no dispute that a spark will have a larger ability to have a higher intensity if it has greater voltage AND current..
Drr.. that is just plain simple..

However the point being that the resistance rises between the gap at higher pressures and/or richer AFR's...
Therefor you need a higher voltage to just even keep the SAME amperage going through the arc...

So you can't just magically PUT more amps' through the arc without changing the voltage, because the resistance is fixed (w.r.t a given engine condition..)

For fear of repeating myself... "If you are having ignition break up in the high RPMS and its not caused by the ignition switching system(Ie, MSD Box) then you want a high voltage across the gap before worrying about getting more amperes across the gap(which you can do by bumping up the primary winding voltage with a CDI anyway...)"

I personally have never had a problem with stock coils so far.
However I have now switched to blaster coils..
My engine is fairly stock at the moment though..

MSD Magic!
Not really look at the resistance differentials and spark durations. But you understand...

BLASTER HIGH VIBRATION SPECIFICATIONS
Primary Resistance: 0.7 ohms
Secondary Resistance: 4.7K ohms
Maximum Voltage:
45,000 volts
Inductance: 8 mH
Turns Ratio: 100:1
Peak Current: 140 mA
Spark Duration: 350 Us
Teste with an MSD 6AL at the plug gap.

PRO POWER HVC COIL SPECIFICATIONS
Primary Resistance: 0.04 ohms
Peak Current: 1100mA
Secondary Resistance: 86 ohms
Spark Duration: 150uS
Maximum Voltage: 45,000 volts
Primary Inductance:
1mH
Turns Ratio:
85:1 Tested with an MSD 7AL-2, measured at plug gap.

The Pro Power HVC Coil is designed for drag racing applications with an MSD 7 Series Ignition Control. With a combination of extremely low primary resistance and the efficient design of an E-Core coil, the HVC produces high voltage without compromising the current output.

Ha ha, their website says the Blaster high vibration is "teste" when used w/ MSD 6al. I think they meant "tested"?

wow thanks everyone for your input and the good link to help me better understand electricity. I am going to go ahead and try the msd blaster 2's to see how they are and if they suck I'll put my stock coils back in but I don't think they will suck. Tweaked your avitar is the ****! ian flux was the best cartoon ever....she's hot Anyways I'll post some results off what I notice with them when I get them installed and get my new tps and plug wires. Thanks again.

I wonder why these aftermarker coils are barfing at high RPM's?
Is there is maximum RPM rating or is that "spark duration" rating a maximum or minimum rating?
At 6,000RPM, we're talking about a 167uS duration between each revolution.
If the blaster "350Us" rating is a minimum, then this coil just can't fire at that small of a duration...

Yeah, get the Blaster SS coil.
It's an "e-core" coil.
It's like $36 / each from Summit Racing.

Can you run blaster coils off stock ignition?
Why?
Because new stock coils are expensive, even with racer discount.

RETed, are you out there? Leading coils will run the car at idle, but ohmmeter reads 15 at first(residual) then 0 ohms every time. Could this cuase hesitation above 5000?

Why don't you just get a pair off of ebay??? They can usually be had for around 15-25 bucks. Oh yeah I ended up taking my blaster two coils out because I believe one may have been bad. My car was running like crap after this and then I put the stock coils on and bamn! Everything was working. If you are getting hesitation at 5k rpm you may want to look and make sure your water thermo sensor is pluged it.
