When does the gas guage needle go up?

Is it just when the key is in the on position or does the car have to be running? I know mine is off bya .25 of a tank but now it wont move at all when the key is in the on position.

The level is stuck....you just need to test it or replace it. They do fail. I had one that did the same.

Mine only works when tank is full, after it needs around 7 bucks it goes down to empty. The good thing is that the light on the panel illuminates when going empty for real...

I don't think the problem is with the gauge in the dash. I think it would be with the leveling device in the gas tank. I'm pretty sure that's what the other posts agreed on too

generally not the gauge, more than likely the sender, or a rusted out baffle in the gas tank.

sell the car if you don't like it rather than bitching about it.

sweet lawdy Icemark, calm down cowboy, i was just jacking around, i love my car, regaurdless of how much i "bitch" about it, its all in fun. And im going to not only "bitch about it" im going to fix it.... err.. whatever the problem maybe. my gas needle is fine, i misunderstood and thought the gauge was inaccurate, but pointing the problem to the gas tank float seems more logical. Sorry....

That is what the problem with mine was so I just replaced to whole fuel sending unit from one out of a junkyard. Mine would read full, then at halk it would go to empty. It was the level senceing system.

Mine is stuck on about 1/4 tank. How do I go about fixing this and what could it be? Also, my oil gauge only seems to work when it wants to and the temp gauge is always in the middle. Help please.
