Whats the Problem

Ok i know someone that has a 1986 Rx7 with a new engine with less than 5k miles on it. The thing is this guy spent all this money fixing it from where it sat for 4 years he put a new drive shat in it, a new fuel pump, and the new engine. Then he put about 6 weeks of his time into getting it painted, I mean a killer paintjob which cost him around 3000$. After all this he finally got it done and one night durnig a bad rainstorm a few months ago a large tree limb fell on it an cracked the roof alittle as well as the windshield badly. There are a few other misc. dings in it. After that the guy was heartbroken and let it sit for about 2-3 months and then he decided to get rid of it and i heard about it so i went to talk to him he will take 400 for it which was the price of the drive shaft and fuel pump. But heres the thing it doesnt wanna start and there is gas in the engine and in the oil. Because when i checked the oil it reaked of gas. So what do you guys think could be thr problem with it.

It's not all that unusual for the oil to have a gas smell, so that isn't necessarily a problem. Do a proper compression check (search the forum for instructions) before trying anything else. Just because it is a low-mileage engine doesn't mean that are no problems with the internals. My suspicious mind is telling me that he probably let it sit because he couldn't get it to run, not because he was "heartbroken". I'm sure he told you that but proceed with caution. Why would he take $400 for the car when it has a "killer" paint job (with minor damage) and a low-mileage engine. Doesn't make sense. Something else is afoot.

No it was running b4 the tree fell on it because I know the guy personally. And about the oil it didnt just smell alittle like gas it was like a 50/50 mixture of the two. but i dont know and it had a good bit of minor dings with the exception of the roof where about a 2 sq ft place looks like it was hit with a sledge hammer. But i dont know. And there arent but like 1 person who knows about these Rotary Engines in my county so...
