Whats the point of having a BOV?

Darn, this post seems like it will go on for ever, i guess we could sum it up this way to finish the discussion:
Automotive manufacturers spend millions of dollars on R&D for what is best, what is worst, what is affordable and what you can live with. If they conclude that they should put BOVs on turbo cars, i guess they are pretty sure its necesary. End of story. Unless anyone of us wants to do R&D on the different possiblities of having or not having a blow off, guess we're just chasing our tale.
I for one use them and know how to benefit from them, that's my 2 cents.
