What's my engine worth?
What would you pay for this engine?
S5 TII housings in very good condition
S4 TII irons
S4 TII rotors
Medium/large streetporting (Paid $400 for the work)
OEM Mazda parts, minus the RA seals and viton oil seals.
Ran for ~2000 miles, and then I cracked a side seal and corner seal on the rear rotor. This also put a small gouge in the rear rotor, probably will need replacing.
So, all parts and seals newer and reusuable, needs new side seals and a rotor.

People go to both extremes nowadays. Look in the classifieds. You may see a late S5 rear plate for $50, or you'll see "S4 T2 rotors 150 each". Personally, I just casually look at prices. I eventually want to build another motor (because I enjoyed that process) and I can use any part/pair for the build as I have a standalone and would figure it all out in the end.
IMO, good quality housings are worth something. Again, if you you run a standalone you can get everything else worked out (ports and compression/rotor type) but you will always need a quality housing.

i really do not think $150 per rotor for S4 TII rotors is unfair at all, it's actually not a bad price.. and i would expect to pay that for used parts for a build if i can't find a complete core motor to tear apart to hopefully find a good pair or single. those are the oldest and now becoming hardest turbo rotors to find, even though they used to be plentiful, many many of those engine have long since popped and FD owners more prone to buy new parts or reman engines with those S5/6 rotors floating around more consistently.
problem with core motors is you don't know what happened or what you will find when you open it up. there are plenty of hack DIY backyard builders in the rotary world, sometimes you find you bought a complete brick of an engine and is why you will be much more prone to selling if you disassemble, clean and take good pictures of the hopeful quality parts.
a local bought a set of n/a irons, he brought them in and they had massive step wear. i told him he would be lucky to even lap them before taking all the nitriting off.. sometimes the deals really aren't deals.

Oh, wow. Good to know. I think I am going to hold onto my stash of rare internals. Might come in handy 10-20 years from now.

Yes, it's opened. The side seals went because I clearanced them wrong, i'm sure. No damage to irons.
$100? You gotta be shitting me...I'd maybe sell the housings for that. I've got 10 times that into the rebuild parts, plus the port, plus the actual engine parts. The $600-800 range sounds more reasonable, was hoping to get some guesses at a fair price.
Here's a picture when I cracked the engine apart that shows the port: I can go downstairs and snap a few more if it helps me get a non-bullshit answer.

the answers were in fact 100% correct for a non opened block. do you realize how many people pass along unopened junk motors these days?
if you part it out and all parts are in good reusable condition then you can likely get about $200 for the rotors, $200 for the housings and $250 for the ported irons, anything more than that and you are ahead of the game.
if you want better answers post better information versus getting your panties in a twist when people give appropriate answers.
