It comes down to who you are trying to impress: other people or ypurself?
And as for girls- 99% are not impressed by a car that is too "comic book" or one that shakes your bones and is too loud inside .

as what i say to all the people who ask me this, i reply
do you look at your car more or drive it more?
if you look at it alot then go for body kits
if you drive it more then engine mods.
body kits tend to crack if you hit something like ie speed bumps also and when you see pot holes prepare to slow down and swing left to right so the body kit doesn't scratch!!!
and if i had a t2..ooohh mann..i leave it so stock looking.. because i believe beautiful cars should stay beautiful..lip and simples body mods are cool but if you change the apearance so much i think you should get another car and give me the T2!

a nice body kit will turn heads. but i dont want to turn heads... i want to drop jaws. watching a ratty old jap-car waste a new corvette will drop most people's jaws.

I would damn way rather have a car that looks like a POS that runs 11s-12s than a very very nice, clean looking car that runs 16s. My N/A is a lil of both though, only runs mid 14s and looks like ***.. well.. kinda, has nice wheels, LoL. Rx7s are sweet *** looking cars, just drop them down just a hair and drop them on some 17" wheels of your choice, darken the windows, you have a very sleek looking car, up the speed, and you have one hell of a ride. im sure you'll make the right choice 
edit:oh, and btw, if a bitch doesnt like the way my ride is, she can get the **** out and walk her happy *** to a pretty lil honda and watch my car scream by.... i hate stupid ******...

I voted for speed over rice, because if I was a ricer, I wouldn't be able to laugh at other ricers. 
But, more importantly, who is your car for (or with correct grammar: for whom is your car...)? Opelbits mentioned this a few post back, but I want to point it out again because I agree with what he said. Speed is for impressing yourself and perhaps anybody else who happens to ride in the car. Looks are for impressing everyone else. I don't know about anybody else, but when I plunk down big bucks for a car, it sure as hell is going to be for myself, and not all those shmucks out there. My car is for impressing me, and me only. Though, not to say it doesn't also impress other people as well.
. FCs are beautiful cars, and doing any major exterior mods would seriously hinder that.
And another question to ponder: Which is more fun: impressing ricers, or making them doubt their sense of self-worth?

honestly, the faster my car is, the uglier i would want it to be. on the outside that is. on my 88 TII, when i rebuild the motor and get it powder coated "chrome", i am going to detail the engine bay and all of the components, spray it a deep silver with blue pearl.
and then i will proceed to paint the outside "dukes of hazard orange", paint the japanese flag on the top and put big numbers in spray paint on the side, all in flat paint.
after that i will take the orange off, paint it olive drab, put white stars on the side, and weld my friends mock 30 cal. to a spare sunroof.
and after i get tired of that i will probably paint it like the engine bay, but the point is..... SLEEPERS RULE ALL
oh i forgot about the primer grey stage
the engine is all that needs to look pretty, if you have to use your car to get laid.... that is just pathetic, plus the fact that only skanks sleep with guys because they have a cool car.....

Come on guys you guys are missing the whole point here. See for me this pole was really easy, I voted for speed because to me my TII is already got great looks in stock form!! I love Rx7's weather its FB,FC,FD they all look great to me stock! Now its just icing on the cake when you add to those looks...

Power over looks anyday. Right now i have a split open front lip, a damaged hood, 1 FTP light hanging out, and yellow paint (white from factory)
Everyone in this area thinks my car is a peice of ****, but once they go for a ride, I have yet to have one person not scream "holy ****!!" once boost reaches full power in 1st gear.

I'll never forget that one time I saw a CRX on the interstate downshift into 2nd gear and floor it (it made the worse lawnmower noise). He shifted and shifted again to 4th before pulling away from me. I wasn't racing him, just cruising the highway, but I barely had to apply gas to keep up. That's definitely rice
