whats the highest boost possible and whats a good turbo?

680cc primaries, 550 secondaries
stock s4 turbo and manifold with JDM intercooler
megasquirt

whats the highest boost i can run safely on pump gas, and whats the highest on race gas??

also, what would be a good turbo upgrade for me? im lookin for around 350 at the wheels max on pump gas.

some people run 20PSI on pump and some push 35 or more on race, are those safe? probably not but you didnt ask what a safe level is. boost levels are reliant mainly on the turbo, fuel system, intercooler and engine management. any turbo pushing 20 psi without correct corresponding mods will blow a motor.

you also cannot put down probably more than 270-280 to the wheels with those injectors before getting them near their max and i didn't even mention the fuel pump which i wouldn't push over 240 to the wheels on the stock fuel pump.

you could probably hit 350 to the wheels with a BNR stage 3 hybrid but it would be much easier to hit with a stage 4 and engine porting. this is just one mod though, there are many other factors you need to worry about to hit that mark.

What's with the 550 secondaries?
You must have an interesting Megasquirt map..

yup. the fuel pump is a walbaro 255 so i think thats good to go. i was just curious what the stock turbo boosting is good up to before the intake temps get too hot and it becomes antiefficient

12 is the highest on a stock turbo. you can run higher boost with it but at that point it's just pushing hot air. To be curious why the larger primaries then secondaries? usually you want larger secondaries to compensate for the added boost up top but I guess you can do the same thing with the primaries......i guess.

it might be the other way around, i just got the car a few days ago.

pretty much im lookin for a setup that could run around 350whp with the megasquirt, bigger injectors, and a FMIC on my stock engine.

your not going to hit 350 with that turbo and those injectors period. I would say 250 maybe 275 for that setup. your going to need either a bnr hybrid (www.bnrturbos.com) or a 60-1 full turbo upgrade. Also your going to need around 720x4 injectors or maybe even more. A good rule of thumb is to go to www.rx7.com and look at thier injector calculator and go from there.

It would be the same no matter what position since 2 of the 4 will be 680's.
If the 680's are actually in the primary position then he could actually run them by themselves for a little longer than 550's before turning on all 4.

Anyway.
For your setup. I would say 12psi is your safe limit.
550's can do about 10psi safely. I've hit12-15 before on 550's but I woudln't want to constantly run those numbers.
680's may give you that extra bit of fuel to run 12psi constantly.

A popular upgrade would be a T04 turbo for the 300whp range. Not sure on the exact one but I'd say E or B(Only seen R's around here so I don't know those numbers for sure).

Hey Cal, nice work on picking up Tyler's car. It'll be a good car for you. Yeah, the primaries are 550 and the secondaries are 680. You shouldn't have any problem getting close to 300 HP with that, IMHO. You will want bigger injectors in the secondaries if you plan on going over 300. Also, the stock turbo is going to be a little too small to support that flow level. A 60-1 or any other large frame turbo is going to be more than you need for that power level. If you are planning on autocrossing or anything like that, I would recommend a hybrid upgrade on the stock turbo or and good quality smaller aftermarket turbo. I have a greddy that I would like to sell that you are welcome to if you are interested. I actually bought it from Tyler early last year. It's the turbo that he had on the silver car before he sold that one. The guy that owned the turbo before Tyler made 340 whp with it, so it'll support your goals just fine and it spools about the same as stock. I paid $500 for it with the manifold and wastegate, you could have it for that price if you are interested. I just bought a bigger turbo, which is why I don't need it anymore. I've got a Profec that I'll throw in for another $200. Anyway, here's what Tyler said about the turbo:

go ahead and call Kevin Landers at Roatry Resurrection and have him get a new motor ready for you because your going to need one.

Do a proper build with a full to4 or get real good at rebuilds with your power goals.

heh, i was thinking the same thing. choose who to listen to carefully or your motor will have an ill fated future.

haha, yeah, i remember the 20psi days. once i ported the wastegate and got a profec....12psi felt just as fast with much less fear of blowing things up.

BTW, one of the members on the megasquirt forums dyno'd his setup. I believe it was 274whp on a stock turbo with an FMIC. 550/1000 injectors at 85%/70% DC respectively. max boost was 10psi until 6200 when it started to fall off a little.

274whp at 10psi. so i guess 300whp shouldn't be much of a problem with a little more boost. but you'll need at least the same injectors that guy used. i'm going with a 720/850 setup which should work out to be the same.

thats funny I remember last month too, j/k boy you think 300 on stock turbo??? I know 275 but 300 on only 2 more pounds of boost is just asking a bit much! get a stage IV bnr and then tell me you want more power that thing is either braking my rear wheels loose in second at high rpms or my 6puck sprung clutch is slipping.

haha, i'd spin the heck out of my old kumho's in 2nd when 15psi hit, or 3rd gear if the roads were wet. with the kind of power you're talking about, you aught to be spinnin sticky tires in 3rd. sucks for me though, bought some sticky tires and now i can barely chirp them.
