What's a good price for the Lexan hatch

This shop has already got them made to order but I was quoted a gb price of $300. The unit weights in at 12lb, so that should shed another 40lb? The weight to cost ratio was somewhat better than my $200 alum hood with paint job, though.

300 installed?

If it were that price installed, I'd do it.

That's just the glass plus shipping. By install, I take it that we're retaining the black metal bracket? This unit should cover the hatch entirely with just hinge & latch holes.
So you think it's still too pricey?

I know that R-Magic sells their for about $350. I'll have to take out the catalog to look, but that's not a bad price.

I've been dreaming about something like that in smoke or dark tinted 7/16" lexan.

I would take weight off the front end for street use. There main reason is safety. Plus having the car heavier on the back will make it stick to the groud more effectively at take off. Plus you will not experience a great deal of adiffrence in performance. Just have someone that can really drive and is trustworthy who is 40 lbs lighter than you drive the car at the track and you shall see that the times will not be diffrent. Stay safe guys...

7/16"? that's pretty thick Lexan.

300 for just the window? It's ok, but fitting it requires cutting the lexan, plus adding some reinforcing ribs down the center to keep it from bowing in the middle with the windows down.. So if you have some fabrication skills, you can do it, it's not that bad. But if you don't know your way around jig saws, aluminum angle, pop rivets, etc.. Maybe you want to pass.

Just my opinion, the thicker it is, the less likely it will have to require bracing. But every lexan window (admitted not RX-7 windows) have required some trimming to get it to fit.

Regards,

PaulC

My guess is 10-20 hours to fit, fab attachments and install. Maybe more if bracing is needed for thinner stock.

Can somebody give us some more info?! How much weight does this drop? Does it maintain the same shape as the glass hatch? ....

Thanks!,

The glass is shaped in a compound curve (dome) that reverses at the tail. I would expect a replacement would be single curved (cylinder) shaped on the sides and flat in the center.

You can get lots of info from Shields(R) . They claim that their supercoat is nearly as scratch resistant as glass. *** for safety, Lexan is far more impact resistant that glass. Sheilds sells front and rear windshields as well as window blanks. This is just something I ran across this morning.
