What would you say to "embossing"in Mazdaspeed7's CF?
here is the polle. as you may know Mazdaspeed7 is making cf stuff. we were talking about it today and wondering what everyone would think about having rotors, "mazda", "rx-7", etc....etc....
i have the tools to imprint aluminum and other thin metals with symbols and words and anything. i could also make them out of stuff like hologram film, well you get the idea.
we would then put them on the cf and seal them in with a thick layer of epoxy. what i need to know is what are your ideas for materials. and how many people would be interested in which one.
also which pieces of interior would you like to see them on. pieces with few compound curves are best. like the glove compartment and the storage bins and maybe the center storage compartment.

Specifically, the door sills, and the storage bin lids I am planning on making soon. Basically, the logo could be in aluminum or anything, and sunk into the cf piece. You would see it over the cloth, but there would be a coat of resin over the top of it.
What do you think? I was thinking about the RX7 or Mazda logo in alum in the cf door sills same place as the stock Mazda logo.

hmmm, aluminum would be nice, I was actually thinking a depression in the resin, but that would be prone to errors and stuff.

the way we were thinkin was to have a piece of metal that has the words pressed into it so that it would rise away from the cf and have depth.
a depression would also collect all kinds of dirt and ****

It wouldnt be too difficult, but it wouldnt be noticable enough to just make a depression.

Node,
the resin is absolutely clear (like glass) so if you can imagine shiny aluminum imbedded in glass there you go. i can even put different finishes on the metal (brushed, swirled, anything)
i am gonna ask some of my proffessors about heat treating the metal so it becomes multi-colored (like titanium)

ok heres more of the deal,
i found a place i can purchase titanium sheet metal, but keep in mind that titanium + Carbon Fiber= $$$. but it would be incredibly cool because i can heat treat the metal in a kiln and cause different patterns in the colors of the metal. i was thinkin about embossing the titanium with the word Mazda or RX-7 and then making the colors form a rotor shape in the center, radiating outwards. $$$ i will find out how to anodize on tuesday and i will post it, then you would have your choice of colors.
HWY9racer9/20,
what exactly do you mean by door panels???? remember these things will be made by hand and very high quality, i can custom make any embossed emblem you would like but once again $$$

FYI - My vote is for simple and tasteful. I too think that simple brushed aluminum embedded rotors under the resin would make for a tasteful addition to the rear compartment lids. Just try not to get too ricey.

What I mean by door panels is some type of CF interior door replacement for the cloth/plastic part they have now. There would not have to be any armrests just a smooth panel would be great. That titanium sounds nice, would like to see how the color turns out. Do you have access colored CF?

Sounds really good-door sills espically. What I would like would be in aluminum, and something like RX-7 and then a rotor. I have been really really wanting to replace the stock sills for a while, so I am really looking foward to seeing something come out of this.
