i already have a switch that was wired up by my car's previous owner to shut off the injectors, but it can't be good for the pump to build pressur all the way to the injectors. so what is the best wire to put a switch in to shut off the fuel pump?

It doesn't matter - the stock FPR should stabilize the fuel rail pressure anyways to about 35psi.
Look for the main relay on the steering column under the dash.  Look for the THIN BLACK wire.  Be careful, as there are black/white and black/yellow wires in there - you want just the plain black one.  This is the main ground for the relay low-current side of the circuit.  This enables you to run a small current rated switch.
