What is a wideband afm?
Hey guys sorry for the newb question. But I just wanted to know what a wideband afm is and what the difference between a regular and a wideband is?
Thanks!
Thanks!

It's not a AFM, it's an O2 sensor. It doesn't measure the amount of air coming into the engine, but rather it determines the air/fuel ratio. A regular narrowband O2 sensor will usually send a direct voltage between 0-1 to the ECU. In the range below 14.7 : 1 the voltage can vary with temperature and thus the O2 sensor is useless. That's why an A/F gauge using the stock O2 sensor just fluctuates and flashes a lot.
A wideband O2 sends a small current to the sensor and uses that to determine the AFR. It needs its own separate controller, and that controller can convert the AFR to a linear 0-5v reading (for a gauge, an engine management system, etc) that is accurate below 14.7 :1 . My AEM UEGO gauge has the controller built into it. Other wideband systems have like a box that you can plug stuff into.
