What type of turbo?

Hey all my current stock turbo is still strong, but every mile I put on my car I fear it might go since it has 154k miles on it. I have started to save and have 1k with $150 comming in every 2 weeks and maybe more from other side jobs. Any ideas on what type of turbo I should get to replace the stock one when it goes? Also is it better to replace the turbo before it goes or wait til it breaks? I need a turbo that can pass California emissions and don't want a HUGE turbo. I have all the mods in my sig and a few more (sig was too long ) Did Cali just recently make their emmisions harder? If so I don't care about smog because my car barely passed with my high flow cat on and major leaning with the fcon. So...yeah any ideas on what type of turbo? I don't want a cheap one that will break, but on the same token I don't want to dish out 3k for an amazing one. I doubt I will ever get a fmic because I hate turbo lag with a burning passion so the tmic will need to be able to keep it cool. If someone has ideas on how I can run custom piping to a spearco fmic I found without much turbo lag I will possible look into buying it.

You're going to run a twin turbo setup?
-also I need to know a good brand. So far I have heard really good things about Garret (sp) but still don't know what model to get.

What are the hp ratings on the T04 you have? And are they huge or what?

-another question: the black side or the turbo (turbo manifold?)...can it be replaced with a turbo header or somthing? Someone mentioned this to me once and I was interested.

--also will getting a bigger turbo mean I wont have boost creep? Or do I have to get a different waste gate?

TO4's can easily produce 25psi and up to 300hp with no problem i have two wastegates i think there 40mm cant be sure ive had them for a while as for manifold they are for a T3/T4 flange which is pretty common. i got a turbo manifold from xs power on ebay it was for a single turbo but im modifying it to be a twin turbo manifold to hold both turbos and both wastegates hope this helps you some.

you could get a BNR upgraded turbo. try searching for info on those

oh, and for IC, you could always go for a V or H mount. very little loss in response time, and cooling as good as or maybe even exceeding a FMIC.

Are you talking about how the FD's have a lot of their after market intercoolers? I've never seen anything other than a smic, tmic, or fmic on an FC.

Ben said the BNR is a good route. BTW Im only planning on running 15 psi at an absolute max and his is NOT for prolonged periods of time.

you guys really need to do a search in the Single Turbo Section (in this forum) you will find more setups of different single setups and their power output than you can possibly imagine do some reading... you will most likely Not be MISINFORMED there, as it is already happening here. Take unsubstantiated words with a grain of salt don't just believe someone cause they tell you so, do some searching for evidence of what they say is either true or untrue... the difference could be you driving your car... and you parting out your car.

Point proven, this is totally either true or untrue, are you talking t3/4 hybrid, or you talking full t04 and what trim size and type of turbo....
25 psi can't be reached easily either, and even if you can get there on a garrett based turbo I dont' know why you would want to much over 20 psi on most of garrett based turbos is out of their efficiency range. But what do I know?

That is a pretty impressive setup, but I'm not smart enough to do that. Now if there was a kit...

-Also wouldn't it be better to get a new turbo over using mine wich is 16 years old and has 154k on it?
