remove the rubber crap under the interior, remove powersteering, take out extra crap under the dash that goes to the airconditiong system.

lol, Icemark we all know that its easier to make the car drop 40 pounds than it is for us to

But as far as weight reduction goes, you can get a lighter battery, and maybe relocate it to either one of the bins or the spare tire hole.

remember with weight reduction, if you are doing it significantly you should also worry about ballence in the car (take from front then take from back) (take from right then take from left)

Sub-zero assist system, cruise control, power steering, tow hooks, airpump, ect.

Just look for stuff you dont need, like last night I took out the straps in the hatch to hold stuff down (I guess?) Little **** adds up.

I dont think this matters so much, well considering you have a 200lb driver with most of his/her weight on the left-front.

BTW- you can also take out your speakers if you are really hardcore, the front ones have their own amps, so they are heavier than youd think.

how easy is it to get at the tar and get it all out?
would it be a good saturday project?
and i forgot to mention i also took out my sub-zero assist stuff
and to be honest i dont know enough about my car right now to take off the air pump, and i still have the stock exhaust system on.
thats why im trying to take all this weight away, i cant afford any mods now

Stock isn't the rx-7 pretty much perfect weight in the front/back, like 49% and 51% or something like that? I was going to take my jack and spare tire out but I didn't want to lighten up the rear end, especially since it's rear wheel drive I figure a little weight could help.

No kidding, I've got about 3 bag fulls of miscellaneous random crap from my car (like the stock fog lights, airpump muffler, random brackets & nuts/screws, rear wiper bottle, rear hatch tie down straps, etc..) and it's like 25 lbs or so of crap

stock dash w/o stereo - 40lbs
gxl drivers seat - 38lbs, havent measured passenger seat but it's probably similar.

Get aluminum hood if you don't have it already. find some convertible wheels. power steering pump is kinda heavy, remove the rest of the AC components. The HVAC stuff under the dash weighs a bunch, each component is just shy of 10lbs... theres 3 (heater core, AC, and blower unit)

I stripped my wiring harnesses so they only have the things I use, all the harnesses have wiring for most of the features even if your car doesnt have those features. Just the wiring in the rear half of the car that I removed resulted in 5lbs grocery bag _stuffed_ full of wire. if you remove the rear speakers cut off the sheet metal that goes on top of the shock towers back there. Remove all the tar, and any rubber insulation you find.

There are many things you can do, just get creative, and when you start adding things to your car for performance, take note how much the parts weigh before you decide to use them.... for example, RB exhaust weighs a ton, may not be the best choice... though it is of great quality and performance otherwise.

So far on my car I've removed the power steering, and the a/c. Keep in mind I removed any and all traces of those under the hood. Any bracket or bolt I removed. I removed all of my emissions and blocked it off except fot the rats nest cause I havent had to chance to take off my UIM. The stock exhaust is heavy not to mention restricitive. I went to a single 3 inch exhaust. I just not started in the interior. My plans are to remove the entire stereo system (wires and all), rubber mats, sound deadening tar and filler material, get light weight racing seats...and thats all I can think of. I"m keepin my heater and blower under the dash. It gets too damn cold here in the winter to take it out. I can deal with no a/c in the middle of the summer no problem. But no heat just aint gonna work.

If I decide to really get creative, I'll remove my power window doors and replace em with non power ones. I'd also remove my sunroof entirely and weld the sheet metal back in its place. But this car is my daily driver so I like those lazy features for now.

Can you get the A/C out from behind the dash without taking the dash off?

I had a 2000/2100lb FC at one point in my life...then I needed a girlfriend so the FC went to ****...

Anyways...If you're hard core. Remove carpet/padding/door panels/glovebox/storage bins/AC/air pump/cruise/ABS/etc...etc...all the bolted/stuck down ****. Relocate your battery to behind the pass seat, as close to the tranny tunnel as possible. If you're really into it you can remove your windows and start hacking at the reinforcement in the doors. I had mine setup to where the windows were up or I could just pull them off the door and toss em in the back is I wanted air. Center console was gone. Hell, I went so far as to remove every other bolt from the fenders and bumpers. Some super light and fat 14" rims with 225/60's...weight 28lbs a piece. Headliner waas gone. Replaced both headlights with a single 80mm hella projector in each spot with a paper thin FG surround. Had 4 massive vents cut into my hood. Had massive vents cut into the fenders that pulled air from the engine bay and over the front rotors. Bumpers and reinforcements were cut/removed. Plumbed my oil cooler to mount on the hood to feed off one of the vets (put the weight behind the front wheels. Custom fabbed headers and 2.25" exhaust made from aluminized steel (12lbs!). Hell, I went at the project with the idea that if four bolts held it but 3 was enough to do the job then 2 would be just fine. I was also more interested in performance than my own safety...

Now, that been said, why the **** did you take your spare out? What the hell are you accomplishing there? Let me guess, you're carrying a can of fix-o-flat instead...

though if you lose weight on the car and you want to lose more, lose weight yourself. You do add weight and if you lose some of that weight, it will help you and you r car.

So M71..u are the only one who can shave weight and everyone else is nuts??? Why can't u have a girlfriend and a car?? Maybe we should all carry 4 spares, full set of tools, and a full can of spare gas just in case to make u happy.
Stop zigging or leave.
I've had 3 FC's and never used a spare in the last ten years...have all three still in a pile...u want to buy em?
WCS call tow truck and save 25lbs everyday.

Where the hell did that come from?

Why can't u have a girlfriend and a car??
Girlfriends cost money, and beings I'm not made of it the car suffered. We don't all that problem.

You act like carrying a 20lb spare is going to kill your race times...ummmm, why not just take it out when you're at the track? takes 1 minute. Really helping yourself by ditching it...do whatever you want.

Stop zigging or leave.
I can do a sommersault but what the **** does "zigging" mean?

I've had 3 FC's and never used a spare in the last ten years...have all three still in a pile...u want to buy em?
I'm proud that you have that many FC's...oh wait, no one cares.

WCS call tow truck and save 25lbs everyday.
Oh wow! That way I can pay to have my tire fixed/replaced AND pay for a tow truck to come help my retarded *** because I took my spare out and left it at home!!! Joy!!! Yeah...you're certainly an intellegent member of the forum...I'm through with you...

1. u with him removing tire
"Now, that been said, why the **** did you take your spare out? What the hell are you accomplishing there? Let me guess, you're carrying a can of fix-o-flat instead"...
2. Girlfriends only cost money if that's the only thing u have to attract them.
3. 20-30 lbs is about 1% or 2-3hp "gain"
4. Most of us want everyday performance, so yes, it does matter.
5. zigger is a put down
6/7. i am just saying that I have never needed a spare in ten years of owning RX7's and are willing to pay for a service call if it ever happens.
